Any way you could drill and tap in a roll pin and jb to secure it better?

This evening i took apart my 4L60e, then took the swap candidate all apart, cleaned it out, and began rebuilding.

Checked my low/rev clutch clearance and piston travel with an air gun and it came out tight like i started... so no changes were necessary. I saw some minor slippage on the steel plates between the clutches, but no burning on the clutches, presumably from when rev was "locked up" with that vette servo, and i hard headedly laid on the gas til it popped... either way i scuffed them up again, and got the lil bit of shine off.

Moving on, i didnt even open the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th clutch packs. I saw no reason, they arent "case dependant" to set the clearances and i was more than satisfied with their performance

When i say "case dependant" i mean the clearances can change between castings with machining tolerances. 2nd 3rd and 4th are their drums, so whatever.

I did however check my 2nd gear band's clearance and piston travel with an air gun, and it was satisfactory.

Im taking a gamble putting the 03 pump in a 2005 trans body. Nicks transmission didnt advise it, but didnt condemn it... the local guy i get my knowledge from said its been done and does work

Nobody said no, so here goes nothing. I looked at the lineup of the pump, and there doesnt seem to be any difference, so we'll see.

I checked my final endplay of the input shaft, and ive got about .018"

Which is close to the low end, but i believe thats about what it was with the other case, so it'll be ok.

Got the valve body on, i did have to re-adjust my 3-4 accumulator's blockoff... but got it solid again so it wont move. Should thump those guys firmly still.

Tomorrow i gotta go to the parts house and get new bell housing bolts.. for some reason 2 of the NEW bolts i had put in the bellhousing got seized and i had to drill them out lol

And my pressure switch got boogered when i removed it. I think im also going to remove the accumulator block-off i made for the 1-2, and instead just put a super stiff spring in there so it wont pound the case so hard.

Either way, within this week it should be back in the truck.

25$ today at the transmission parts store

A bag of bellhousing bolts
A Transmission filter
a secondary spring to put in the 1-2 accumulator

I figure while im here i'll remove my block off sleeve, and instead do a beehive spring setup.

It'll still be firm, but not so damn firm its pounding the casting to death at part throttle.

Fully blocked off, it'd bark tires and get the truck sideways at WOT 1-2 @ 6300. Kinda scary.

I did a hard pull from 1st in the rain and it blew the tires loose in 2nd and fish tailed haha. Guess thats what 4AWD is for in the transfer case.

Im not wanting to be in "full race mode" all the damn time. Like my lumina, i want street manners at part throttle... like so my wife can drive it even

Then at WOT, it needs to be scary.. when it gets a turbo i'll be aiming to have the same behaviour

Yessss!!!!!^^^

Man, it makes me miss my lumina so much. Most of it was in the turbi sizing. I used a T04e with i think a .5 a/r exhaust housing.

IT paired beautifully with that 3100.

You could drive around part throttle, stay out of boost, drive like a sane human, get around 20 something mpg. I had the trans tuned to match that profile.

Then when you laid on it, it'd smash gears, and straight up devestate some stock and slightly modded v8's.

With the manners this 4200 has, coupled with VVT, im thinking a properly sized borg S366 will pair well.... this motors pretty much "all in" by 2000-2500 if you give it the beans, but otherwise, you can float around town with part throttle under 2500 rpm
