Ground the sending unit wire itself.

84 k5 Stock fuel Guage stuck on 1/4 tank???

Does it peg to empty if you ground the sender wire? Thats more important than going to full unplugged..

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Most of the holes in the head gasket are blocked or partially blocked to direct coolant flow. The holes in the block are there to remove sand from the casting process. Its normal to see a 1" hole in the block and head but only an 1/8" hole in the gasket.. just the rear most holes are wide open...

Are you reading the guage or the engine temp with a scan tool?

First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

I think your vacuum leak is under the hood. Check all your hoses and spray some carb cleaner while it's running.

    Check out my rear end

Look at your driveline mounts for wear/play. These engines move all over the under load. Your chattering might be due to the springs in the carrier. There are three different rates available for those springs. Back in the day rebuilders typically put the strongest spring set in to maximize...

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Check the grounds at the t-stat housing and clean the throttle blades. Also clean the egr valve. It's probably stuck open some.

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Twenty-five years ago if you would have told me anyone was buying a 3/4 ton truck just to commute with I would have laughed in your face. Nowadays its commonplace. Hell I wonder why Denali/Platinum/Laramie trucks even come with hitches..

No driver's side rear turn signal or brake light, because no power at bulkhead

If you have a tilt column the wire might be broken at the swivel point. Usually there isn't enough space to repair it though. A new switch comes with that harness.

No driver's side rear turn signal or brake light, because no power at bulkhead

You probably need a turn signal switch. There are two dogs in the switch that move (literally) between the brake and turn signal input and complete the circuit when the lever is moved. The right side dog is probably burned out, i would say this with near certainty if the front blinker works...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

I gotcha. They would have to put the ribbed side to a smooth pulley or vice versa, and that would be hard not to notice. Its a convoluted routing, but either the pulleys are on the inside of the belt or outside

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

In a serp setup any pulley that is turned by the smooth side of the belt is spinning opposite of the crank, any pulley that is spun by the ribbed side turns with the crank. Nearly all serp setups spin the water pump reverse beacuse the belt goes between the crank and water pump in an "S" route...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

    I wouldn't put a 700 in a 3/4 ton truck, that's a step backwards.

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

It's probably not the cause of your ovwrheat issue based on your symptoms, but you should check your total timing and power time it. If you are running stock advance weights and springs you are leaving a lot on the table. There is no reason to throw head gaskets at it at this point. It passed...
