    Tbi engine backfire

Those would be the knock module(ESC) and the EGR solenoid. You can un plug the egr vacuum, plug the line and see if it clears up, but if it was that, the whole engine would shudder, and it would set an EGR code. the ESC would set a code as well, and very rarely fail. The code 44 you already...

    Tbi engine backfire

Well, I am sure we have seen just about everything, or damn close to it. The only thing that really eludes us in the EFI realm, is the sudden rich running that these systems start doing all of a sudden. Be sure to check the magnetic pickup coil inside the dist as well. Make sure the outer...

    Tbi engine backfire

Have you confirmed the timing setting? 0* BTDC Coil is plausible for the rough idle, especially if it's aftermarket. Just had a guy recently with problems. Had an MSD coil I think, he slapped the delco coil back on and it cleared up. But that wouldnt cause backfire. Backfire would be lean...

    Tbi engine backfire

Pressure should be constant, between 9-13 psi. there is a fitting that comes with the proper gauge to install in line on the feed line at the TBI unit. An o2 sensor in bad enough shap to cause a major problem like this would set a code.

Engine dies when put in gear

Me is thinking Vacuum issue. Leaking Modulator maybe?

    Tbi engine backfire

Ok, thats maybe a step above stock, lobe separation of 112 is good, duration is a bit more than stock. Sounds good on the o2 sensor. So now, I would like to see what you get for fuel pressure. 9-13 is a good, factory spec reading. any lower, and there may be a leak in the hose between the...

    Tbi engine backfire

First thing, If you have not done it already, you need to install a heated o2 sensor in the drivers side collector. Not saying this is the cause of the backfire, but is necessary to do any further diagnosis. Also, TBI is very sensitive to cam change, especially a cam that will affect vacuum...

Engine dies when put in gear

If you have a 700r4, the torque converter could be locked up, or the carb is not adjusted corectly. are you able to keep it running with some pedal when shifting into gear?

    Ground wire issues?

You can rent them at some parts stores.

    Ground wire issues?

Ok, next thing to do is put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what the pressure is. That code says its running lean.

    Ground wire issues?

Bad PROM is like a bad Ignition part...it either does, or doesnt work. I would definately look at all the grounds, and even add some. Also, check the codes from the ECM, use a paper clip, and jump A and B terminals on the diagnostic connector, then count the flashes. Each code will flash 3...

    TBI start up troubles

Clean that timing scale off and get it readable...its very important to make sure it is set properly, so we can cross out improper timing from the list. Maybe a compression check is in order, but until you can get to that, I would recommend checking all of the engine grounds, and the battery...

How to tell if TC has lock-up?

Get above 40 mph in OD, then press the brake pedal with the left foot to see if the engine rpms go up. I have never seen a 700r4 without lockup, unless it was a full out racing application. My testing method may not work if there is an electrical problem, or faulty Lockup solenoid.

    TBI start up troubles

Ok...here we go! Is the check engine light on? Check the Vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is responsible for determining the engine's fueling needs by measuring Vacuum. The lower the vacuum, the richer the fueling, and vise versa. The line to the MAP should be running off...
