    LT4 hot Cam..Opinions

The power range in a 383 will be about 1,400 to 5,400 , not a high rpm stick at all. Nice cam for a 383 depending on your final gear and trans setup. I'm not a fan of the Air-Gap intake's cut-down divider because it will effect throttle response off idle, but it will help crutch the small...

    Post cam install blues

Same bank having problems could also be a coincidence , please don't hesitate to consider cam problems since that's what was just changed . Carb. , ignition, and valve timing are suspect ( but not much) , a valve seal or guide next ( highly doubtful , and I doubt the rings have worn suddenly...

    Low Down Grunt

Damn , I typed your next questions and 28 yrs since I did this on my my '78 and it's gone. 1. Change heads too ? 2. Consider a roller cam setup ? 3.Oil pump too if there is that much wear ! 4. Timing chain set condition ? There is a lot of torque in a 350 sbc1 (per c.i.) when done to it...

    Vortec heads worth massaging

It really depends on how much is charged for the porting, but the biggest gain is on the exhaust side and they can be made to flow well enough to use a single pattern cam quite well.

    Blue LS Z06 Valve Springs

Received the springs already - THANKS ! M.O. got mailed one day late because of work. I think they're faster with their packages then they are with letters !!

    93 tbi 454

The new dist. will need to be a non-computer controlled unit. ie "hei" or "points". The flattop pistons will give you approx.. 7.9-1 compression , same as stock !

    Top End Rebuild

Buy a new oil pump also - they're cheap. I've done all of this to a high mileage 350 with great results , ( I used a set of rebuilt heads tho' ).

Opinions on a possible engine replacement

Probably a typo, no one seems to proof read the internet

    1967 327 Question

Now you're on it !! 366 same price as a 427 !! Wow ! How'd want a 366 ? Slow is an anvil rolling uphill , but just as durable too.

    1967 327 Question

366 is a bigblock, and I believe a tall block at that (I know the 427 truck engines are tall deck). 366 has the same stroke as a 396 or 427 - just a smaller bore and probably 4 ring pistons too (like the 427 "truck" engines).

    Will These wheels work?

Truck tires seem to be getting very expensive, especially the larger the rims size. I just bought a pair of retreads in 245/75/16 10 ply that are on Goodyear Wrangler casings. $256.00 with shipping. They have a good reputation , too bad they don't have any highway rib retreads for fronts !

Opinions on a possible engine replacement

That is the only affordable 350 crate engine to consider in my opinion. But - any 350 will be noticeably down on torque compared to a 400. The only reason those 400's were down on power at 4,000 are the stock heads, (and the stock cam coming in a close second for poor performance). I'll...

    1967 327 Question

I seriously doubt it could have a solid cam , all the solid cams were Hi-perf only long before '67.

    Help with my 400 build

The vortec heads will be fine for a torquey 400, but not enough airflow for a high HP 400 build - especially with power adders. Build it now and enjoy the torque, then when you want high HP change the heads and spin it higher. You may find that the vortecs are enough if your cam tops out below...

    8.1L engine 4L80E trans 4.10 vs 3.73

Not a big jump from 3.73 to 4.10, do you need just a small difference ? Or do you feel that a bigger diff would work better for you (4.56) ? I've had all three , but in vastly different trucks and none had OD. My TBI/454 V3500 3+3 w/4.10's could pull a backhoe, but needs a fuel tanker for a bed.

    Best fitting big block headers?

Hookers were always top-of-the-line , there are more expensive nowadays - but I don't think you'd get hurt buying them.

    305TBI to 350TBI

If you want a choke without a crossover - it must be an electric choke, but the crossover is for more than just the choke when you run a carb !

    305TBI to 350TBI

Beside using port EFI , what are you suggesting for heat when using a carb ??? (heat stove off of the header - ?) thanks !

    4 Bolt or 2 Bolt????

4 bolt main caps are great for dump trucks, tow trucks, boats, and the like. Anything that loads the engine at its torque peak and slowly revs thru it pulling a load. The crankshaft harmonics are at their most severe at the torque peak !

    383 Help?

It really depends on how much attention was paid to the details to make that 9-1 engine run it's best, could be only 8.6-1 with no quench also. The 600 is a good mileage carb for a 383 IMHO, and you probably need a square bore carb for your manifold - so a good Q-jet is not an option. Pull the...

    12 bolt locker

I had a Detroit Locker in a work truck and it wasn't pleasant on a slick surface. It will push the truck straight forward when turning until you let off the gas pedal. A much better locker for the street would be the Detroit TrueTrac, and I'd suggest a carrier bearing billet steel cap for the...

rv cam in a 305 vs. stock 350 tbi cam or other?

You'll have more torque off idle with the tbi cam, if the heads have been worked to benefit from more lift then use 1.6 rockers, ( and good new springs ). I don't think you have enough ; gear, compression , or cubic inches for the best use of the other cam unless you use "fast bleed" lifters...
