    New driveline choice

Since you mentioned doing swaps, how about this... Get an L31-R (Vortec) crate long block. Holley Sniper EFI or equivalent. That’s a touch over $3k there. Add in an intake manifold, ignition, and fuel pump, and you pretty well got it. You can be getting all this ready on the stand while...

    Speakers

I ask because I have been thinking about either buying these or building my own for a couple of years now. I only have the center mounted speaker in my '79, and thought these might be a good way to go. I personally am not cutting into my doors for speakers, but would do something in the...

    Speakers

How did these work out for you? Curious how they do firing into the seat. I have seen a couple of guys build boxes to fire 6x9's straight up behind the seat. They claim it sounds better than this mounting.

    Installing valve springs.....question????

The air you were hearing was probably air going through your ring gaps.

    Best of the worst?

IMO, FITech is marketed as a cheap system. While this is true, you also are NOT comparing apples to apples. The cheap $700 version everybody falls too is a fuel only system. Most (I think all) of the other "name brand" systems are fuel AND ignition control. To get that from FITech you need...

    Custom grille

I'm another one watching this! To fit those lights you have pictured you are going to need 2" tube with a very light wall thickness, like .060". Those lights spec out at 1.8" tall. It can be done, and I think it could look really cool. I say if you like the look of a 2" center bar with...

With all this "just as cheap to go LS" talk I hear, do any of you tell the guys that still build Ford flatheads how retarded they are for going that route? Before the LS, before the SBC, the flathead was the most popular hotrod motor. It's what got Edelbrock going. Do you guys bash them...

    Cluster Interchange Question

Found this.... "81-84: ‘78 and up tachometer cluster will work as a “plug in and go”, but you will not have use of your factory cruise control if the truck is an ’83 or newer (the green box behind the speedometer)." Yes it should work, but as gmachinz stated, some minor re-pinning may, or...

    472 cadillac engine swap

I remember Car Craft doing a build on a 500ci Caddy engine a long time ago. The weight, or lack thereof, surprised me too. IIRC, the thing made over 600 lbs/ft of torque with a pretty mild cam. My dad's cousin was building one several years ago. When I was talking to him about it he...

    Anyone Reproducing Air Inlet Tube?

That's a good idea with the taller lid. If I run across one I will snag it for my truck. I have been kicking around the idea of doing a dual snorkel intake.

    Lowering a 4x4??? I don't get it!!!

IMO, it makes no sense to jack a truck up on 38's or bigger either. :boxed: I put black wheels in the same category as the situation you described, ridiculous.

How hard is it to transplant my engine?

Of those choices I would go Ramjet. It comes complete, basically ready to go, with it's own ECM and wiring harness. Easier to wire up than an LS even, phukin imagine that. o_O Throw in a fuel pump in your current gas tank and you should be set. That's the extreme short of it.

    Looking for a cam

Don't waste your money on a new cam.... LS SWAP!!! Why are you going to spend $300 on a cam kit when you can get a 6.0 for $400 and be good to go for 100k miles? :driver: *disclaimer* I am not serious about the LS swap, and I would call up the cam manufactures themselves and...

    Need better fuel mileage

If you have to make a car payment the whole plan goes out the window. You can't find a car for $70 a month. And even if you could, you would just be breaking even in the monthly budget. If you can sell your truck and buy something with cash, then your plan makes sense. But to sell your...

    Swap to an 8.1 Vortec?????

No, that assembly will not bolt to an 8.1. The top ends do not swap betwix the traditional big block and the 8.1. When you say current, you realize the Vortec 7400 was out of production by 2001, don't you? He could however swap it onto his current 454. But if he is going that far I would...

    Swap to an 8.1 Vortec?????

I gotta admit I was not for this swap at first, but after reading that thread, it could be a nice swap. I didn't realize mounts and accessories we're a direct fit. The biggest question to me would be how much you can get a good 8.1 for? I would think if they end up being much more than $1500...
