    17" tire sizes

I am running 265/75-16 on my stock '79 K20. I could easily move up to a 285 if I wanted. I would say go with 265/70-17 on your truck, as it is a half ton. That is an extremely common size today so new tires are relatively reasonably priced, and readily available anywhere.

What have you done to your square lately??

Was fixing an exhaust leak when I noticed my front shackles didn't look right... I like the sounds of ORD's greaseable HD shackles. Or maybe I will just get some poly bushings and make new shackles myself. Dunno yet, any suggestions?

    Source for Tachometer Repair

I am happy to report the tach works perfect! It is now installed in the truck and operational.

What is the oil pressure supposed to be?

The viscosity of the oil can have an effect too. Conventional 30w type oil is thicker and will show a higher pressure. Synthetic 5w-30 type is thinner and will show lower pressure.

    01 Olds Silhouette Thermostat Replacement

^Agreed. I will say the head gaskets are a fairly close second. My Montana has had the head gaskets replaced twice now. Once at 70k miles before I got it, and again at 140k miles. I did it myself the second time, and yeah, its a bitch working in that engine compartment. I much enjoyed...

    RETRO-Mod: Jeep intermediate steering shaft

Apparently the new hot set-up is a steering shaft from an Astro van. Don't know what makes it better than the Jeep shaft, but a lot of guys are going to it now. Thought I would throw it out there.

So I picked up this set of wheels last night.

I thought they looked familiar. I saw a set on CL, and the main reason I didn't buy them was they were 16.5's. Someone looking to run military take offs might like those.

    My wife's new Ride

We gots a minivan too. My wife wasn't comfortable driving the Suburbans when we were looking. She would have done a Tahoe, but I said no because of the lack of room behind a third row. I like it, and I was in the "Over my dead body" camp towards ever having one.

What have you done to your square lately??

I had one from Classic Industries (same thing...) and was not impressed with the stamping at all. The bends and corners were not anywhere near as crisp and sharp as the factory tach I have. This threw off the mounting hole locations so far it could not be used as is. I decided to not use it...

Ready to build my 383 stroker

I was going to comment on this too, but didn't get around to it. FI Tech looks really intriguing. Simple four wire hookup to get it going. And they have that Command Center that allows you to run your mechanical fuel pump. Personally, I would skip the CC, and use that money to do an...

Ready to build my 383 stroker

I would say a lot depends on your budget. Your current Vortec top-end would go nice on a 383. But if you have the funds, I would say go with some aftermarket aluminum heads. You will be able to get away with more compression (within reason), and shouldn't have the over-heating fragility the...

    Need a Good Bed Mat

Glad you found one! I did look at mine the other day, but there was no manufacture name on it.

    Need a Good Bed Mat

I have a nice one in my truck. It's been in there for as long as I can remember. I have no idea what kind it is, but I will check it out closer today and see what I can come up with. It is squarebody specific, as it has triangle cutouts were the fuel filler neck intrudes slightly into the...

    Rag joint replacement

Why don't you have the option of a Jeep shaft? Guys are selling them all over the 'net, no need for you to go JY hunting. I have seen them going for $40-$70 shipped. I got one for my SS a couple of years ago for $40.

Post pics of your square with LED Bar

I don't have pictures of it, but the other day I saw a truck that had a light bar integrated into the grille. It wasn't in front of it like FilthyFifth's, and it wasn't hidden behind like Cob suggested. They had taken the time to cut out parts of the grille and fit the bar nicely into it...

    Anyone Paint Their Rims Black?

I thought they looked like crap on 1lows red truck. It depends on the overall look really. Someone had painted their wheels to match a blue truck, and I thought it looked really sharp. And it depends on the person. Some people think black wheels are the cats ass no matter what the vehicle...

    305/70-16's on stock K20?

By the math, 305's are 12" wide. (305mm divided by 25.4 to get 12.008 inches.) I was curious what people would say too. That is the size I am tentatively looking at, but I would need to get wider wheels. If the clearance is too close, you could always do a 1" body lift, or run some...
