Got a factory tach that does not work properly? Scared off by the $100+ pricetag usually associated with the repair. Well... I found an alternative!
I was browsing the classified forums at thirdgen.org, and ran across a guy that fixes tachometers, for $45! Being the ad was on a Camaro forum, I sent him a message asking if he had done tachs for our squarebodies. I sent him some pictures of my tach, and he said he thought he could. So I sent it to him to give him a chance.
Full confession... I have not actually hooked it up and tested it! My truck is not at home right, and with the temps in the teens/20's right now, I am going to wait for at least a slight warm-up. He has all the equipment set-up to bench test them, so I don't see why it won't work.
His name is Greg, at he is located in Louisiana. I mailed my tach to him on a Monday, and he received it on Thursday. He had it done by Thursday of the next week, and sent it out on the following Monday (his delay in sending it was my fault, not his, payment issues on my end.) It was back in my possession on Wednesday.
He had to replace quite a few parts, as you will see in the pictures. The first two are before, the last two after. I do not know what everything is, but you can see what was replaced by comparing the pics. Really good, clean solder connections. I am looking forward to testing it!

He prefers emails so that is all I am giving out. So far I am pleased with the work, and yes it was only $45! Hope this helps some of you that have a factory tach that you would like repaired.
I will update this thread next weekend when I get it hooked up and tested.
