    My 454 build

I'm interested to see where this goes! Just out of curiosity, are you not worried about throwing a lot of torque at a 2-bolt main? I also have a 2-bolt main 454, and have been thinking of things I could do to pull more power out of it (one day). But in the back of my mind I keep thinking its...

can you change a 6 lug front axle to 8 lug

If you're just wanting it for looks, I don't think the Arrowcraft kit will be a bad route to go. I think they have been around for a while. If you want a dually setup for function (heavy towing), then your best bet would be to buy a true drw axle (dana 60/70) and have the spring perches...

can you change a 6 lug front axle to 8 lug

I would think you need a 3/4 ton suburban 8 lug axle. I don't believe a drw axle is going to bolt right up to a suburban. The spring perch locations will not match. If you can get yourself a 14 bolt full floater axle from a 3/4 ton square suburban, you could go with the conversion kit from...

    SM465 swap for?

I would agree with you in 9 situations out of 10. Daily driving through town, and driving or towing on flat interstate I would say NV4500 all day long. But I can say from my experience, towing through the Appalachian Mountains with the SM465 has been less than desirable. The wide gear ratios...

    Temporary Motor Support

I was skeptical about it also. With the front axle in the way, it is nearly impossible to get a jack stand in a suitable position to support it in any other place. I hemmed and hawed over it for an inordinate amount of time, but I talked to my engine builder buddy, and he said it shouldn't be a...

    Temporary Motor Support

Thanks for the response. I have ZERO desire to pull the motor, which is where this request originated from. I decided to just support the front of the motor with a jack stand under the harmonic balancer. I haven't started drilling holes for the motor mount brackets yet, but I have begun...

88-91 Suburban 4x4 Motor Mount Brackets

No longer in need of these brackets. I found out that the 2wd frame dimensions are different than the 4wd frame dimensions where the motor mounts go, so I have begun modifying the set of brackets I already have.

    SM465 swap for?

I have read up on it a good bit, and have almost bit the bullet several times. Just hasn't been in the cards yet. I am not positive you will have to modify the SM465 shifter. I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe you would need to cut or bend the shifter to accommodate the ranger...

    K10 vs k20 frames.

Some additional info I discovered during this process...The inside height of the 4wd frame where the motor mounts are located is approximately 5-5/8". The inside height of the 2wd frame where the motor mounts are located is approximately 5-1/4". The 4wd style motor mount brackets do not fit...

Need Pics of Engine Cross Member

Thanks! Please accept this digital cheers as an expression of my gratitude :favorites13: The lighting makes it a little difficult to read the exact measurements, but it looks like the frame height is about 5-5/8" to 5-3/4". My 2wd frame height at this location is about 5-1/4". This...

    SM465 swap for?

You and me both brother! I almost pulled the trigger on one recently, but decided to hold off until I finish my current list of projects.

    SM465 swap for?

You could go the route of adding an overdrive gear box to your drivetrain instead of swapping transmissions all-together. Look at the Ranger Torque-Splitter by Advance Adapters. You can find them for cheaper than AA sells them. You get the same overdrive ratio you would get out of the NV4500...

Need Pics of Engine Cross Member

I have a big favor to ask...Do you think you could measure the height of the inside of your frame rail where the motor mount frame brackets are??? I tried to install a set of factory 4wd frame brackets, and they don't fit inside the frame rail. After talking to ORD, I am starting to think that...

88-91 Suburban 4x4 Motor Mount Brackets

This is the information that I found. Thank you for verifying. I am trying to retrofit the ORD motor mount and cross member kit into my R2500 that was converted to 4wd by the previous owner. The original 2wd motor mount brackets are still in the truck, and they are a completely different...

88-91 Suburban 4x4 Motor Mount Brackets

I need motor mount frame brackets (the pieces that bolt to the frame on either side of the motor) from a 3/4 ton 4wd 88-91 suburban with a 454. I bought a set that came off a pickup truck, and they do not fit my suburban frame. Best I can tell, I need the ones specific to what I just...

    Reverse lights

Do you know if that blue wire in the picture above is the power source from the fuse block???

    Reverse lights

I think I read on the wiring schematic in my trusty Hanes manual that the green wire is the wire that goes to the reverse lamp. Is that correct? So in this case, I would need a 12v source to the switch and then the green wire from the switch to the lamps. Correct?

    Reverse lights

I am actually doing the opposite. My truck came with an auto, and now has a manual. So can I cut the wires to that switch on the column and wire it into the switch on the transmission? Sorry, not trying to derail your thread.

    Temporary Motor Support

This is more just a general question about supporting the motor than it is anything else, but this seemed like as good a spot as any to post it. Getting ready to swap motor mounts, motor mount frame brackets, and engine cross member. I need to support the motor in place so I can line up...

    Clutch Recommendations

Unfortunately nothing to report yet. I did get the clutch installed and the transmission back in. But I have several other items to tackle before I get it all back together and on the street. Time to work on the burb has been limited lately.

    K10 vs k20 frames.

That is correct. You have to drill holes in the frame to mount the 4wd frame brackets. I am getting ready to do this on my burb. I bought the off-road design high clearance crossmember, as well as their heavy duty motor mounts. I also bought a set of 4wd motor mount frame brackets off eBay...

    K10 vs k20 frames.

HotRodPC are you "squarebody4x4" on Pirate4x4? I just responded to your post (at least i think it was you) about the R2500 and V2500 frame similarities. I thought it would be good to post here too. The R2500 and V2500 suburbans do NOT have the same punched holes for motor mount frame...

What manual hubs are you running?

I run Warn Premiums on my suburban. I did blow up a set, but that was how I found out that I have mismatched gears in my front and rear axles  Since replacing them with a new set, I have had no issues with them. They engage and disengage fairly effortlessly, and have not had...

HOW TO CONVERT 2wd to 4wd?

My suburban was converted from a 2wd automatic to a 4wd manual by the previous owner. It doesn't look like anything ridiculously-complicated, but it does look like a good amount of work. yevgenievich is probably right though...it may be easier (or quicker) to do a frame/cab swap. And likely...

Intro and question about towing with a C35 one ton

I really think you will be fine with that setup. I would check with your DMV and insurance company from a legal perspective. But from a capability standpoint, you shouldn't have any significant issues pulling a gooseneck double car behind that badass truck.
