Intro and question about towing with a C35 one ton

Do you know the GVWR for the truck is? Should be located on the drivers door sill (?)

that is not the stock color. the truck was originally a different shade of red. however - I believe is is 'a' stock color as my Dad's '77 was exactly the same.

After doing some thinking on this, I put an ad on my local craigslist putting it up for trade for a smaller trailer. I bought that big @$$ trailer from a buddy knowing it was a little too big anyway.

I really think you will be fine with that setup. I would check with your DMV and insurance company from a legal perspective. But from a capability standpoint, you shouldn't have any significant issues pulling a gooseneck double car behind that badass truck.

It's better to have more trailer than you need, rather than needing more trailer than you have :cheers:

My 2 concerns would be that stock radiator ..

yes

that was pretty much my only issue. The killer is that I actually bought a really nice aluminum radiator with twin fans on it, but it didn't have the extra port for the heater hose, so I ran the stock one.

Currently fabbing up mounts for the new rad...

You can run the heater hose to the water pump instead.....

no, the L18 uses a different style. There is an outlet from the water pump that goes into the heater, then the heater outputs back to the radiator. My new radiator simply does not have an outlet for that return line.

I don't need a heater for the near term and I think that bypassing it may actually help keep the cab cooler...

THREE QUARTER TON 2WD SPECS:

Standard: 9,000 lbs. single rear wheel

So if you're a dually, pretty sure is 10,000 lbs regardless of rear axle ratio

Updating this regardingng gearing. I have been towing a small trailer(5k) with 3/4 suburban(same 4l80e) and to keep lockup happy was driving 70-80mph with 3.73 gears. Also have 1 ton with 4.11 gears and it was happier at lower speed than suburban.
