Rear blocks / zero rate advice?

I like the DIY4X version better, easier to tune the shackle length and angle. In my opinion a better quality part, sold by someone who actually makes it, rather than being sold by someone who outsources to the cheapest bidder.

i have to get a new frame

Sand blast it, let it sit outside for a couple weeks, wire brush it, clean it with POR's metal prep, POR 15 it, and then top coat it. POR is moisture curing, you need some rust for it to bite properly.

    1973 C20 Fleetside wood bed?

My dad had a 76 C10 with a 400 in it when I was a kid. I distinctly remember the wood bed floor. It was a longbed fleetside.

    camel back heads?

I've seen guys claim 330-340 finely tuned with a good intake and exhaust. Driving mine, it's not entirely out of the question. It's 10x better than the cammed L05 I had in it.

    Stock TBI and Vortec heads

Its not really as complicated as you would think. Ford actually has a decent system of organizing parts. Every part has a 3 part part number. F65Z-9092-B for example... F65Z says it's an F150 part from what I understand, 9092 tells you what kind of part it is (in this case a fuel tank...

    camel back heads?

GM part number 12530283... Gets you a nodular crank, 4 bolt mains, roller cam, and Vortec heads, with a GM warranty. Add a Vortec intake, swap the timing cover for an older version, the factory timing set for one for a TPI V8, and a flexplate for a 1 piece rear main engine, and you're in...

    Stock TBI and Vortec heads

Thanks. And yes I have been extremely busy. Started working at a Ford dealership in sept as a parts manager, despite zero Ford parts experience. Flying totally by the seat of my pants 95% of the time. Had to purge a lot of inventory, including over $10k in aftermarket parts, as well as removing...

    Stock TBI and Vortec heads

No, it's been parked since September. Bought my Taurus since I drive over 100 miles a day to and from work now. Needs a flexplate, and if I come across a deal on a set of front lead springs for a square, I'm going to straight axle it.

No difference between 062 and 906 Vortecs when it comes to performance. Chevy High Performance retracted that inaccurate claim shortly after it was published.

The 1.84 heads were common on smogger engines. The 1.72 valves were common in early small blocks.

    camel back heads?

"camel backs" "camel humps" and "double humps"are all the same thing. Later models did get accessory holes from the factory. They are ALL 40+ year old heads. As for your 86 Monte having "dealer installed" heads... Sounds like a voided powertrain warranty right out of the box. Best case...

454 tbi, performer rpm intake, Vortec heads, and a good tune. Skip the flat tappet cam, and go for the Vortec roller cam. Youwill love it.

    camel back heads?

Most likely they won't have hardened seats to run unleaded fuel, figure a valve job, surfacing, and a crack check before you even bolt on used heads. If they do need hardened seats, or any guide work, you're money ahead to just but a set of new Vortecs. Even when you factor in the cost of a...

How do I get to the clutch pedal bushings?

Hydro pedals are completely different. If you're looking to take the whole pedal assembly out, plan on removing the steering column, and unbolting the brake booster from the firewall.

upgrading your square with a hydraulic clutch

No mechanical linkage to wear out... Z bar parts are stupid expensive to buy. I'll see if I can remember to get some pics of my clutch linkage in my 80. Every single piece is shot. With the hydraulic setup, all of those exterior moving parts are eliminated. No greasy connections to attract...
