Well I was able to get the 84 started today by spraying ether in the carb. But it would not idle if I let off the gas. So I cranked the idle screw in all the way and let it warm up. As it did I had to turn it back out. While doing that I noticed the alternator belt was lose and that was the cause of the volt Meyer fluctuation. So tightened it but still seems to wiggle a lot but it's tight.

I think the edelbrock carb is crap. I've never liked them because mine have always sucked. Think I might put a quadrajet on it instead. If it sits for a little while it's hard to start and keep idling. Here's a couple of videos of the problems.

Drove it Tuesday, yesterday after work (Friday), and today( Saturday). Loving the time in the truck. Taking the kids to swim practice, returning things to the sporting goods and hardware stores, getting dinner, trip to the big box hardware store with the other half today for Christmas decor and new front storm door for the house. I even figured out a trick to get the passenger power door lock to unlock when it decides it doesn't want to.

Do the magnaflow straight through mufflers count as glasspacks? If so, I've had them on my truck for a decade and love them. The sound matches the era of these trucks so well.

The larger body of the Magnaflow and the perforated tube (as opposed to the louvered core) give the Magnaflow a much more mild sound.

I have dual Magnaflows on The '87 and they sound very similar to the Thrush Turbo Mufflers we had on Dad's '77 GMC back in the very early '80s. I don't love them but I do like them.

I'm going to try installing my valve covers and gaskets correctly this time. Then I plan to remove a few spark plugs and inspect them to see if I'm getting detonation or some bad misfire at speed.

Do I need to use anti-seize when I re-install them, or will they seat just fine back in the iron head?

SHould probably check the cap and rotoe as well. Maybe I can get to the distributor hold-down and dial back my timing a little....

Anti seize won’t hurt but wholly unnecessary in your scenario.

Was listening to the engine while parking at the store today and habitually stepped down on the parking break...which I avoid in the truck. When the parking break is engaged in my truck after it is released the pedal drops back down and lifts the mechanism that turns on the e break light on the dash even though it is fully released. I have figured out how to get this remedied before but cannot remember what I did. The pedal seems to need tightening at the spot where it pivots from full release to full engaged. Does anyone have a fix for this? I do not believe my e break line is out of wack as it does work. I just think the pedal needs adjustment in the cab and I cannot quite figure out how to tighten the pivot point with two large phillips/flathead on each side.

Finished the engine dress-up for 95%.

It all started with a leaky freeze plug replacement and then I got a bit excited.

In the 90's my camaro had cherry bombs. Believe it or not...they weren't that loud until higher rpms

Recently I had 2 thrush glasspacks put on (long ones) and it was just too loud...I knew within 25 ft of taking off. I'm guessing that I got a different brand in the 90's, but they didn't get loud until you got into higher rpm's.

lol in '95 they were red and sold for ~$10 each at parts stores left and right. Wish I knew what brand it was. Then again, could it have been straight out the back exhaust instead of out the side (truck) is why I didn't hear it?

So to start, I will say that I believe when a passenger tries to open the passenger door while it is locked, is the main contributor to the lock eventually not wanting to operate and release from locked. Now, pressing the door shut with strong force then pressing the unlock direction on the passenger door switch (with window down) and pulling up on the lock knob at the same time seems to persuade it to open. After the last successful time doing this trick(yesterday), no reverting back to stuck in lock mode.
