Does anyone experience a drop in rpm when turning on the A/C?

Carburetor failure. When activating the air conditioning, the rpm drops. I have a 350 engine. Has this happened to anyone?

I have a quadrajet carburetor

Rpms on my 350 drop a touch when I turn on the a/c. Does the engine stall out? Idle speed may be set too low.

on an 1986 there should be a mechanical plunger that holds the throttle higher when the AC is on, ac kickup
is this truck a computer controlled qjet or normal?

This is one example of the settings for a carburetor in a 1986 350, but i doubt its your carburetor. Knowing your carburetor number will help i can pull up the relevant info

or a more efficient compressor / ac system, or if its really a bother, go to a variable displacement compressor, they dont cycle like clutch on-off ones do, so the horsepower draw is more smooth. it will still draw on a high load for the ac, but it wont be the way the OP complained ;) meaning the idle probably could be ticked up a tiny bit overall and then not notice

Or just fix the solenoid/wiring , its pretty simple, then the 350 will chug just fine
