Speaking of oil ..

This mod may be overkill ..
My thought here was to add more lubrication to the cam chain ..

A .040" hole drilled into the NPT 1/4" plugs will do the job ..

Also doing a bit of protection by installing screens on the oil return from the top end to the pan ..

what year is that oil cooler from, the gmt400 have a lot of TSBs about them and if its from the 90s i will find some of them , because the bad issues range from leaks to oil starvation to dry starts

Buddy has a 61 Bubble Top Chevy with a 348ci in it ..
He's wanting to go though it and get it back to looking like new again ...

The car has really low miles on it, everything in the motor should still be at STD ..

Fixing to find out ..

All the belts are on ..
Hoping they will stay on at 6 grand ??
Tracking looks great now .. Took a bit of work to make that happen ...

Also got around to fabricating a mount for the oil tube & stick ..

Got a good start on it ..

A little more welding and dressing in, be ready for paint ..
id also recommend a different alternator, one with a modern regulator like cs130 to cs130d and ad230 will have a soft start feature, meaning no belt loading until the engine is running
less likely to squeal or slip and also helps the engine by making it less resistance to turning over

And good belts and pulleys
The pulley will swap directly to a cs130 for example

Now that I've took the bore .060" oversize I'm wondering if it's going to be a bear to keep cool ??

Thought is to add a oil cooler to help the cause ..

My 496 runs 185 all day long. I have a direct drive fan with extension to run it deep into shroud. And with 3 core radiator.

Model and Year: 1988-89 K30 TRUCKS WITH 7.4L 454 CID V8 ENGINE (RPO L19, VIN CODE N) AND ENGINE OIL COOLER OPTION (RPO KC4)
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

General Motors has determined that certain 1988-89 K30 series trucks with 7.4L V8 engine and engine oil cooler option may have oil cooler line/filter adapters that were machined incorrectly. These adapters allow oil to by-pass the engine oil cooler and/or the engine oil filter.

But decided not to run it ...
Got a M77 and installed the optional blue Corvette spring in it ..
later gmt400 oil coolers use different cooler line tech so if you ever had a mismatch that might help

Not sure what I'll be using for lines just yet .. ??

The Fittings that are on the cooler adapter are AN -10 stuff at the moment ..
Kind of depends on the cooler that will be in play, which I haven't got around to nailing down ..

I do have a few transmission coolers on hand, but their hose ends are barbed ..
Not going to be using those ..

you could use an end tank one, frankly i dont see a benefit to using a dedicated one esp since it wont then be warmed up with the coolant and maintained there being separate

from the sounds of your cooling (normal coolant cooling) will be pretty good, with a restriction in the heater core pipe circuit and a quick spinning, high gpm flow water pump
The big block has a bypass hose im assuming your using as well, if your radiator can be had with an end tank cooler on the opposite side of the radiator cap(same side as the top hose), you could use that to great benefit
that should also make the lines fairly simple

I'm wanting to keep the radiator free from additional heat reason for a stand alone oil cooler ..

The radiator has a built in trans cooler that is in use, thinking about deleting it for a stand alone trans cooler ...

unless youre just desiring to take advantage of extra space elsewhere, removing your trans cooler from your radiator is actually pretty dumb. Unless you never drive this thing short trips or the winter, youll be under temperature

Theres a specific reason for end tank coolers and when auxillary coolers are used you use both
you want the fluid up to temp
And a end tank cooler may not be large but it does a LOT of heat removal

As long as you have a good shroud and fan and maybe even a pusher fan, youll never overdo it while moving slowly or sitting still, and never ever while moving.

I dont understand why you want to overcool your trans and your oil, but the oil cooler idea is less confusing because that wont struggle to be up to temp as much as the trans would
