I see what you're saying. The Switch would be open preventing back feed, and the gear selector uses the neutral safety switch to activate the reverse lights correct?

so the attached diagram should be ok then?

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Tap into your stock backup lamp harness to the trigger terminal on the relay. Install a toggle switch (ignition or battery, whatever your preference) to the same trigger terminal. Then run your power wires from the relay to the auxiliary lights at the rear of the truck. Flip the toggle, Lights come on... Shift into reverse, they'll come on too. Done it to probably 100 trucks.

I know I'm being dense, but I can't quite visualize the circuit you are describing Greasedog. Do you suppose you could draw up a quick diagram for dummy's like myself?

I think he's referring to the same thing I drew up just keeping the auxiliary lights separate from the stock back up lights

Why a toggle switch? Unless you're wanting the option to KILL the auxillary back up lighting.

So why not run the Aux Back up lighting power to a relay, then have the OEM back up light activate the relay to send power to the Aux lighting? You can also have the toggle swith inline to the relay for Aux light kill. This way the Toggle switch stays ON all the time, unless the need arises to kill the aux lighting.

The toggle switch it's to use the aux lights as work lights. They'll come on with the reverse lights, flip the switch, and they come on s work lights while in Park.

Ahh, I get it. So dual purpose use rather than kill while in Reverse. Could still do the same thing. Use a relay, and have it activated EITHER by back up light wire signal OR toggle switch.

EDIT: Yeah, just like he has drawn up. I didn't catch the relay in that drawing.
