Hey guys I have a 1982 k1500 that the wipers won't stop. So I put a new switch and motor in cause the wipers didn't work, now they work great but they don't stop only easy to get them to stop is to un plug the motor. The book i have on the truck doesn't really show how the switch or motor works. I have heard that the switch is ground and the motor should always have power to it? Is that correct so maybe the new switch isn't breaking ground like it should?

so maybe the new switch isn't breaking ground like it should
possibly OR one of the wires (purple or gray) could be grounding somewhere before they get to the switch.

I'm assuming the wipers start as soon as the key is turned.

Would help to give us a little more info. Delay or no delay module?

For some reason I can't upload the pics. But the original switch has 2 plugs. They went to a little box that had one plug. The new switch has one plug and i was told I could just bypass the little box and plug it right into the switch. Yes they start running as soon as I turn the key on. I will look at that diagram when I'm by the truck again.

That sounds correct. Basically you are removing the delay module. "little box".

Attachments show wiring for delay module & no delay module

Does the washer work?

If you unplug the wires from the switch do the wipers still run? If they do not run, it is the connection to the switch or switch itself that is the problem. If they continue to run you probably have a wire that is grounded somewhere.

Attachments are how to diagnose. Notice the terminals are labeled 1-7 on the picture.

So the washer seemed to be working properly, I'm going to go up there today and I'll do the trouble shooting you guys have recommended and we will see what I can find! I'll keep you posted

I had constant continuity to ground on the purple wire by the motor. Un plugged the switch and lost it. So I pulled the switch out and the copper contacts where the plug pushes on are all messed up. Then I looked at the truck side and those pins are all messed up. Anyone know where I can find a new plug?

What do you mean exactly by messed up? Bent or plastic is melted etc..

Picture would be helpful. You have a few options- I generally just try to replace the pins (they will usually come out of the connector by pressing on a tab- every pin is a little different on how to remove them).

If the plastic is melted- maybe Ebay or junkyard. Someone else might have a better idea where to find one.

It's been a while and I can't quite remember exactly what that connector actually looks like.

The connections in the plastic plug are all bent up. I'm having trouble uploading pictures. Yeah I think the plastic is ok but the pins are bad.

EDITED: Nope guessed wrong. I looked at a picture of the wiper dash switch online- I'm not sure now. _ sorry. Maybe someone else will know.

I'm guessing- probably a GM Pack-Con III Series Terminal Female- 20-18 Gauge

I just went thru the same thing, that plastic plug-in on the motor housing marked with wires numbered 4 & 5 was the culprit.
Yes, the motor is "ground switched" and is powered all the time the ign. switch is on. If I remember, I had to bend the contact out a little as it rides on a cam inside, that opens up that contact to stop in the park position.
