In my '86, I decided to install a new wiper motor as my wipers were sooooo slowwww. I picked up a reman at the parts store and put it in with no problems.

Wipers worked good......and fast...for about 15 minutes and then they just stopped. I turned them off, drove home, and switched them back on. Worked fine.

Got up this morning and installed some new blades. Turned the wipers on and they stayed on for about 5 minutes and then stopped.

I disconnected the motor from the linkage and turned them on. They seemed to work fine except the motor was making a grinding, ratcheting type sound. I left them on for maybe 10 minutes and the motor ran fine.

I don't THINK I have a binding linkage problem as they worked fine before I swapped the motor. While I had the motor out, I grabbed hold of the linkage and worked the wipers by hand and they worked great.

Did I get a bad motor motor or do you think I have a linkage problem? Anything else maybe?

I wouldn't mind checking out the linkage.....before I start removing panels, can anybody tell how the access the it? Is it just under the cowl panel in front of the windshield?

Thanks in advance!

My guess is you got a bad motor that is getting bound up
when it gets warm under load

I felt the motor when it stopped running and it was what I would call, "slightly warm"

No clue as to how warm it should get

I work at Oreillys and have heard that the remanufactured motors tend to be junk, haven't tried one myself yet but wanted to sometime. I'd return it and get another on, if it works awesome, if not I'd say it's something in the switch or wiring.

I bought it at Autozone and suspect that the remans are less than reliable.

I just returned it.

I tend to think the electrical is ok as the wipers worked fine prior to replacing the motor, other than being pretty darn slow.

Are you running them on a wet windshield with the engine running?

Yes, George, I am. Very easy to do when you live in Washington State.

Well, I went back to Autozone and ordered a new motor. Installed it and it works fine. Darn rebuilt parts!
