Hey guys, I have a 1986 m1028 cucv and I want to do a manual swap there is a “indent” where the shifter would be. I would like to use a sm465 but there is no overdrive and I would like for the shifter to come though or close to the stock location if that’s possible. I know I’m gonna be grilled for say this but the getrag g360 would come close I think and I don’t think the 6.2 has enough power to break it so I read. If it’s really not a good choice I’ll got with a nv4500. If you guys know of any other transmissions please let me know. Thanks guys

What application was/is the G360 used in?

'89-'93 ? Dodge w/Cummins oil burner.

Adapting the input and output for Chevy use is probably expensive or not possible at all?

My '98 Hobby wrecker has the NV4500. Yeah I may have gone past the GVWR of 15,000# but I haven't broken it yet. Would be a much easier swap.

Here is some info, I missed the synchronized reverse by one year:

I'm looking at the TR-4050 for about the same application.
Not cheap but they are still building them and they can handle the torque of a 6.2.

This is an easy one.....NV4500. Cuz I just done it. As for durability, that trans could stand up to 3 of them old rod knocking 6.2's. If you go this route, I can answer all your questions. Converted my 85 K20 from slushbox th400 to manual trans, hydraulic clutch with all the good tips and tricks.

I'm running a NV4500 in my daily driver Burb. It has a 6.2 with banks turbo.
Wouldn't go any other way. Get 20mpg and can cruise 70-75 easy with 3.73 rear gears.

Is that a 4 wheel drive? I have a NV4500 I can put in my 79 K20 which has 4.10 gears but I’m checking to see if I can convert my 14 bolt to 3.73, and heard the front Dana44s can be converted by just swapping axles.

You don't want 3:73 gears behind that 4500. Trust me.

Agree.
@boltbrain , look at the rpms you'll be running in 5th gear with 4.10s.
With 32-33" tires, you'll be close to or a bit over 80mph at 2500rpms in 5th gear.
You have the cruising gear in the trans, don't need to double down with higher ratio axles.

No, it's a 2 wheeler running a 265/75R16 tire. Depending on your tire size, you can still run the 410 rears just fine with a NV4500.
