Wheel choices for 4x4

Wheel choices seems to be all over the board with Squares but the 4x4 hubs in particular pose a problem for a lot of wheels it seems?

It also seems the spec'd centerbore is way larger than he actual hub?

My thought was a late model take off wheel from an HD truck to clear the hubs and use wheel adapters to fit? Has anyone tried this? I have two OEM wheels I'm looking at and I prefer the oval mags vs the spokes but the price is right on the spokes if the adapters will work?

Sounds like you have an 8 lug truck, however rally’s or deep steelies are my favorite. I got a set of steelies with 33s for my rig.

I have read that the 8 lug wheels from a full sized Hummer (the one on a Suburban chassis?) will fit on a squarebody, but have never seen it done.

I've owned 8 Square bodies (20 & 30 series) and put aftermarket wheels on them all. You're correct, most aftermarket wheels have a larger center bore them OEM. I've never had an issue with breaking studs. The wheels will center on the tapered lugs.

The PY0 wheels fit on 8 lug Squares with no issues, mine came with them. You would need to check the hub diameter on the second set you pictured. They still my be too small.

I'm a 4x4 owner so I am a big fan of OEM rally wheels if you are sticking with a 31 or 33. Now days bigger wheels are the rage but those clown college looking things that brodozers use have no place on a square. Alternatives to stock for me are American Racing AR 62 in brushed finish, AR 172 in Polish or Black, and then the classic chrome or white Spoke/Wagon steel wheels, and then there is also the beloved and classic 5 slot aluminum "Mag" from Mickey Thompson fame.

Running the Pro Comps til I get my steel wheels readied for the Dog Dishes.

Don’t screw with adapters/spacers for a new lug pattern. IMO
PYOs are still fairly plentiful and cheap.

The wheels you showed are 2 different lug patterns also, btw.

You are correct, mine is a 1/2 ton and I was going to either use adapters or have them drilled and filled...you say no on the adapters eh? I was thinking that might be asking for it, I haven't had any experience with them.

Those polished mags are pretty cool 45tt!!

The problem I'm seeing is that the center bore on most of the 6 lug wheels aren't big enough for the front hubs? I have seen a couple forums where guys have taken a router to the center bore but that seems sketchier than an adapter?

It looks like, of all things, a Toyota spec wheel would fit as it has the same bolt pattern with a large enough center bore?!

These are my 2 personal favorites. I believe the top is something similar to Pacer 320C. I believe the bottoms are AR62’s. I haven’t decided on which ones I’ll be getting yet.

I second these rims. Old school look. I got mine in 17x9 flavor. Went with 17's for future tire options and possible brake upgrade in the 2nd pic. Or in the 1st pic

I LOVE those slot wheels but F'N HATE those bfg AT tires!!! Kinda sad that everybody uses them when they suck so bad.

I also vote to stick with 6 lug wheels.

Yep, Toyota wheels fit okay.

GMT 400 wheels? Prolly not work.
