Strength. It spreads out the clamping load to a wider surface and helps with cap walk.Oh, OK, worried me for a second, thought I had missed something in my build and I had empty bolt holes! LOL You guys are way more advanced in this engine building stuff, but splaying it was never a consideration. Question , why would you even want to spl
ay a 4 bolt, just curious.
Yes, splaying just goes a step beyond the capabilities of a 4 bolt. You can still get cap walk with a 4 bolt. Good bolts or studs help.OK, understand that. I thought that was the whole purpose of 4 bolt vs 2 bolt to begin with tho.
Makes since, kind of glad I didn't know about that before I did my build. lol That would have required another executive decision and undoubtedly more money at the machine shop!Yes, splaying just goes a step beyond the capabilities of a 4 bolt. Not necessarily. The last 454 I got out of a big ass Winnebago was a 2 bolt. Not to but in but since you 2 are talking about gen 4s were they all 4 bolt mains? What about mark v?
Edit in trucks anyways
Really that seems odd. Have to pull the casting numbers then? Not necessarily. The last 454 I got out of a big ass Winnebago was a 2 bolt.
Those are kinda vague too. According to the casting numbers on my 402 it comes up as a 70 454 or 402.Really that seems odd. Have to pull the casting numbers then?
Well that sure helps! LolThose are kinda vague too. According to the casting numbers on my 402 it comes up as a 70 454 or 402.
The pad numbers are more helpful then casting numbers. Kinda like street address and zip code. A zip code will get you close an address will get you there.Well that sure helps! Lol
