@bucket @TotalyHucked @HotWheelsBurban My fricken brain hurts after gaining all that knowledge from reading your posts!! Holy crap---did GM keep anything the same besides their exterior sheetmetal design!

I'll get some underhood pictures for you and post them up, hopefully soon, because I am very curious now.

My problem is, I do NOT want to cut a hole in that hood for the twin carbs--so I will let it sit for now and leave it alone. I love the tunnel ram I have on my dually, but I don't like the thought of cutting a nice hood---and for what, so i can have a nicer hood than what the rest of my truck is at the moment :p

After 8 square body pickups and Burbs (5 Burbs, 3 pickup) and Dad and I having to go through each one, bumper to bumper, multiple times...some of those things are pretty stuck in my memories. More than once, we were under a truck late Sunday night because it had to be taking someone to work the next morning.
I blew another vendor's mins last year, telling him I knew he had a '73-'74 GMC tailgate, and how I knew that's what it was. He'd probably seen Mom and I come in and unload my merch from my OBS crew cab, and prolly didn't figure I knew much about square body trucks.

That's a '77 hood. It was the first year for the safety catch provision that was part of the inside hood release option and the last year without a provision for the cowl safety interlock thing.

A '77 hood will have this little rectangular opening ahead of the striker plate:

But not have anywhere to mount this reinforcement bracket back near the cowl:

^^^That's a '78 hood. So while all '73-'78 hoods look the same on the outside, the '77 is a one-year hood and the '78 is a one-year hood too. You can use any hood on any of them, but earlier ones need modified if you have the inside hood release or if you happen to have the cowl interlock doohickey.

Well that's good to know! Man, if I keep this up I'll have a song similar to Johnny Cash, except about a squarebody :Big Laugh:

It's not just the squares, I have friends with OBS trucks that are made up of parts of many different trucks. Even my stock Crew Cab has parts off like 5 different trucks from the wrecking yards. Be 6 or 7 after my next trip, I need a hood and a few other bits.

I have a Chevy Celebrity that I sold to a fella I knew. In the time he had it, it was wrecked twice and his ex wife smashed a bunch of windows and did other body damage. I bought it back and fixed it with parts from 6 different cars. It was multiple colors for a number of years and got the name "Patches".

Edit... here's the Google time machine to the rescue with a picture, lol

My great grandmother had an '88 celebrity for her last new car. She got run into, in it, at least twice, and my grandmother (her daughter, they hated each other but lived together) wrecked it at least once. And one time she drove it off in the ditch in front of our house and shop building... getting it out was fun. That car got parked in front of their apartment in SW Houston, and was the spare car when nothing else was available. Finally got stolen; the thieves ditched it a few miles away. It needed brakes and an alignment, never got properly straightened and squared up after the last wreck. Hopefully they got laughed out of the car thieves union.....
It had replaced the '77 volare that had also been gifted her by her oilman nephew in law, after he came to Houston for open heart surgery and demanded she get a new car. And he would pay for it. She had a ten year old Plymouth Fury l sedan, that had a 318, torqueflite and AC, and not much else. She gave me the volare after she got the celebrity, and of course it waited until I wanted to fix it up(had the notorious Carter bbd 2 barrel, and I found a 4 barrel manifold and an AFB to put on it) to begin rusting away.... Then I was keeping the parts for it, in the car, and some punk broke into it and stole everything.....
