Unless someone else can give you an answer, I would contact Bryan at Got Torque Differentials in San Antonio TX. He will know

If you want direct bolt-in with zero modifications, you simply need the same as what you have. A 6-lug 10bolt from a truck through '87 or a Blazer/Suburban through '91. If you are open to minor parts swapping, you get a lot more choices.

Thank you, am trying to find one around Reno area but no luck with it.. Finding a bunch for OBS, but am not a welder so kinda leaves those out for me.. Shops around here want $1800 - $2500 to rebuild mine... Quite a bit out of my price range...

Will a 12 bolt not bolt right up?

If you don't have a shop/room to work in, your options are limited. I would personally do a new ring/pinion and rebuild kit for about $250 and rebuild the axle myself(that's what I did on my 2011 Suburban). It took a weekend and is going strong. If you have a little extra cash, then drop a yukon duragrip in it for an extra $500.

Did you check price at Driveline & Gear on Glendale? They would get my business if I were to pay a shop in the Reno area to set up gears. Looks like you just need R&P and seals, it's a big job but $1800 sounds a bit high.

I walked the 3 of wrecking yards a few months back & didn't see a single squarebody, went to the ones on Parr, 4th, and the pick & pull on Greg.

ETA: Welcome to the forum.

I would think so... Probably more available too, almost all the half tons I've seen in this corner of the world have 12 bolt rears.

That isn't that tough a job Buy a book ask some questions, especially ask some questions some of us have improvised tools for doing stuff like this. Ring, pinion differential bearings, pinion bearings pinion seal,a crush sleeve and new ring bolts. Price that stuff in your area.

CalSGT, Thank you yes have gone to all 3 around Reno and Carson.. No Squares..

BUCKET... Thank you.. years ago I did swap a 12bolt onto an 89 blazer I had and was able to find the right ujoint...

Ricko1966.. worse case I will have to go this route, am just a bit intimidated digging that deep in to the rearend. Have worked on vehicles for many years just always stayed clear of the internals of both rearends and transmissions..

Drive to Phoenix. I find complete housings for $100 to $250. There is 2 guys that part out C10 trucks here and the 10 bolt is the least desirable and cheapest

You can change out gears faster than you can change rearends.
It will, but iirc, they all ran a different u-joint than a 10 bolt and I believe the park brake cable setup is different too.

Drive shaft is shorter too.
Ya'll hurt me! Lol. Lost the pinion bearing in the 82, 10 bolt, have 3 12 bolts out back was just going to stick under there. Do have a same truck, round eye 80 if I needed the drive shaft.
