My first vehicle was an 78 Chevy Luv. Then later on dad gave me a 64 Ford F-100 with a 292 V-8 3 speed on the tree. Never liked that truck.
First car: '74 Chevelle (base Malibu).
My dad ordered this car for my mom to drive.
454, TH400, 3.42 posi, 8" Corvette rally wheels; swivel buckets, rally cluster with tach.
Still have it; I have raced this car for 37 years. Best ET is 9.85 at 136 mph (naturally aspirated). Took me to two NMCA World Championships (runner up both times); 15 top ten finishes in 15 years.

I'd sure worry about that stock shifter though if it were me. I can see keeping the straight shift pattern instead of reverse pattern, but I think I'd at least have to have a ratchet shifter for just in case.
The bastard years of the ElCamino/Chevelle/Malibu. Seems not many like that body style. Personally I like the Olds Cutlass in those years better myself too. Glad to see someone have a nice one to keep around for the Nostalgic American Vehicle history purposes.
