I bought this 1984 GMC Sierra K2500. It used to be the diesel engine but one of the previous owners dropped in a SBC 350 gas engine. Currently, the power steering pump reservoir is just taped to the master brake cylinder. I am looking to buy a new pump that has a reservoir on the pump, with no hose. I was gonna buy one from LMC truck but it looks like it only has one line coming out of it? And my pump has 3 lines coming out. My steering box has three lines as well. If anyone could tell me if the diesel power steering system was different from the gas system? What would a part number be for a new pump that would work for me? Thanks

You have a Hydro-boost system. The first picture is my '85 K30 454 remote reservoir location. I'm not sure about the SBC location, but it's probably similar. Picture is not my truck, but a picture of the bracket. I have seen guys mount the reservoir on the core support and even the left fender like below.

When you look up the P/S pump look it up for a K30.

@Craig 85,

Hydro boost! So strange. Why did GM think this up? Did they actually believe the power brakes needed this kind of force to work in most situations? What situations? Was this system for commercial use like carrying very heavy loads, big trailers, dump bed model, what?
And what years was it used?

Not sure what all years had them, but the oldest I found for light duty vehicle was 65-67 Big Block Chevelles and El Caminos. OPGI sells reproduction parts for it. My guess back then was due to a lack of vacuum for power brakes. I also found the same system used in 69-72 BBC trucks.

My 80 C20 crew cab had a 454, but vacuum brakes (8600 GVW). I would guess 10K GVW was the breaking point for a while. My 1993 C2500 Suburban with a 454 had the hydro boost and all 3 of my 2001+ 8.1 L have had it. Diesel vehicles also have hydro-boost.

I've only seen the hydro boost on one tons, 30's. On the small blocks I've seen/have it has a "regular" power steering pump. Prob just need a pump for a hydro boost system.
