What is the best oil to run in 1984 C10 with high-milage stock 305?

This topic is always a personal choice. Me personally, i use castrol HM 10w-40 in every thing i own. When i change my oil i add a can of restore also. Kinda a family trait with us all but it has served us all well.

I live in AZ where temps are over 100 regularly and I've always ran 10w30 conventional oil with no problems in a 1975 350. Go with what the book calls for. Change the oil and filter regularly as well, every 3,000 miles. You'll get 300,000 miles out of your engine if you do that.
There are dozens of oils out there that want your money. Keep it simple and it'll be reliable.

Subscribe to project farm on YouTube. He tests several different brands of oils. Out of all tested, Amsoil was the best. As for weight, being high mileage, your bearing clearances could have grown some. Try to get a good oil pressure gauge. If you have low oil pressure, then move up in weight. I wouldn't think it would hurt to try. And different oils can cause noise. I have morel lifters that sounded like a sewing machine with 5-30. I switched to 10-30 and now the noise is almost non existent.
