Got tired of catching my clothes on the OE trim clips so I pulled all those off today. Brought the potato out for another look, it's none too happy about any of that. Looks like summer got away without much forward progress. Damn.
Joe Biden: LOOKIN' GOOD!
Impressed you got him to advise on your project, but of course his vintage Corvette shows he's a Chevy guy.

Glad the trip went well! If it was a pair of red/white trucks and a blue truck parked under the awning, that was me lol
I saw it at the AMD booth too, but didn't think it was yours, because i thought yours had a standard transmission with a floor shift?

If, anyone is keeping score,.........
Today is day 4 of me waiting for a call back from BluePrint about my engine.
I called two days ago and was told, we have your info and pictures, someone will be calling you soon.
Well.........
If this is handled good and proper, I'll sing their praises. But until then...........
Finally received return call from BluePrint. The guy who had my "file" assigned to him was on vacation and actually an extra week as he was trapped in the NC mountains.
I can certainly understand that. It is a really tragic situation there in my home state.
The guy was very nice and said he had been a mechanic for many years. I felt good talking with him.

Anyway.......... he is sending me parts for my engine.
A little work for me, but they are helping.

Did he have a suspicion of what caused it to happen?

Sure do. There were 2 blue trucks in our booth, a blue/white '71 with an LSA and a 10-speed and mine next to it between us and Sweet Patina

That's good to hear they're helping. The guys we deal with in their marketing department that do the shows seem to be top notch guys and speak highly of their sales/service team as well. Hope it all works out

Only thing was what the tech guy said and that he said "I've only seen it happen a couple times." He led me to believe that possibly
a lifter had collapsed/wouldn't pump up. Since I live 10 miles from Edelbrock/Comp Cam's facility here, I've heard several stories about lifter failures, not saying it's theirs.
The tech guy said there had been "an industrywide lifter problem recently."
We'll see when I dig into it.

Finished up reassembly of the dash, it looks nice:

Of course, I had to fix the fuel gauge, it did not function after I put the clear cover on, but before the large dash bezel. Turns out I was off target, too high, when putting in the fuel gauge and tipped over the top two retainer clips:

Easy enough to pull them back upright with needle nose pliers and much more carefully put the fuel gauge back in place, works great.

Everything I could reach was cleaned, including the gauge dial faces. I went super gently with just a damp baby wipe and managed to get lots of dust and brown dirt off without seeing any white or orange paint smear. I was very happy with the results. Also touched up the silver highlight circles and rectangles with testor silver model paint. I even bought the correct bezel screws and made sure they went into the proper places with the conical washers and were secured firmly but not too tight.
In my search for the next repair projects, I found the clutch pedal return spring is gone. And I decided to treat myself and ordered $400 worth of door repair parts and new door panels in Saddle color. Will be trying to finish those before the snow hits.
These got to go, they are crumbling:

Yeah, for the last 3-4 years it's been rough finding decent lifters. For quite a while, everybody knew to stay away from "LS7" style LS lifters, no matter who made them cuz there were so many failures. They high end racing/performance shops had some good ones (Morel or Johnson) but they were 4-5 times the price of normal replacement lifters. It seems like we've finally come out of that, I'm seeing and hearing alot less failures the last 6mo-year
