How’s the 20-50 workin?
I have a few gallons of it leftover and was thinkin about using it up on my old vehicles. It’s a little thick for my taste usually run 15-40 in most everything. But I was plowing through this super cheap 20-50 in a vehicle that leaked and burned oil but never used it up

So far it seems fine, I was running 15-40, decided to try the VR1 because it has the zinc/additives in it. They offer it in two options for multi weight. 10-30 and 20-50. 10-30 is a little thinner than I’d really like, especially for summertime. If 15-40 was an option I’d use that.

My friend and his dad use it in the 540 big block in their boat, and my boss uses it in his 69 Roadrunner that’s almost 500ci. Both talked good on it, and both of those are much more demanding than a wee tree fiddy.

Found my miss problem when changing plugs. 8 cylinder plug boot burned through and was arching to the header. Replaced it with an old wire. Guess I'm gonna get some fireproof boots for it again and put one on #8.

New msd wires too. Sucks they are expensive.

I've always used 45° boots on Rats with headers. No need for anything over them.

Yep! I believe some companies call them 130* boots or something around there.

I had some Taylor 45s on it before these but the boots started coming lose from the wires and had to replace them with these msd wires. I seem to not remember that you can bend these away from the hedders. So I'll bend them and add the $16 boots just to be safe.

These new hedders are bigger than the old ones too. Had to grind the socket just to be able to change plugs. So there's that. Lol

FWIW, I’ve gone to using Accel shorty plugs for that reason. I’ve had good luck with them- I just googled their cross reference chart and chose the one that correlates with the AC Delco that I’d normally run. I’ve also heard that they are nothing but rebranded plugs from other manufacturers that are already short- if you do some sleuthing you may find a cheaper option.

I have Taylors on my SBC, and was initially not impressed because I wanted all 90 degree boots, but it turns out the different boot angles work well with different cylinders depending on the header tube and so were useful after all. The only downside is that they’re so damn long. Best of luck to ya!

I've seen them called 135° too. I've always called them 45° because they are at a 45° angle from the heads, and I don't want people to have to do the math.
But, my Mom always said I was a nonconformist.

For some reason, they don't call straight boots 180° though.

I run boots on mine too, tried a couple different plug wire combos and everything touches on at least 2 cylinders. The boots don't look bad IMO

Well I'll tell you what, you and I have the very same thoughts on spark plug boot terminology lol.

Today I had a buddy close by so we re-timed it to 35-36 degrees all in at 3k. Fun fact- when you accidentally let the plastic spark pickup fall against the header tube and it immediately melts, carb cleaner removes the melted plastic it because it’s immediately turned to blackened soot.

Also got the rear end scheduled at Driveline Service for August 5th. He’s gonna put in a 3.42 Tru-Track for me.

Surprise decision to drive the truck down to our river house, as per my lovely wife's suggestion, for Father's Day weekend. Packed up with supplies, tool box, fire wood, and portable fire pit for a fire and smores. Her car is loaded with our luggage and fun stuff. She and the kids will probably beat me there and need their bathing suits. Ready to roll.
