I started body work a few weeks ago. Yesterday I put a door I had bought on the stand to get cleaned up. It looked great other than some chipped paint. I pulled the molding off and lo and behold a 1/4 inch thick chunk of bonding came with it. The previous owner had bondo over the rust under the original trim and it was a solid 3/8” thick in some places. In no world did the repairs they did need that much fill. I got it back to bare metal and began a more reasonable repair.
I looked at the bed that I got that came off the same truck.... the back corner below the taillight has a "new" body line on one side. LOL at least I am prepared this time. The door was supposed to be a "quick" clean up the flaking paint and get prepped for eventually painting the truck. I'm glad I got theses parts for a really reasonable price.

Replaced the rear driveshaft U-joints. I had to melt out the plastic locks from the old ones. I'm thinking they were from 85.
I have the one-piece shaft. I used the C-clamp from My Maddax ball joint kit and a Dewalt impact to remove and install the joints. There was still grease in the old ones. Now on to the front shaft.

I like the original u-joints. They last a lot longer than joints you have to grease every so often. Why people like joints they need to grease is beyond me.

Built a center console with cup holders. Didn't like the look of other aftermarket ones, so I made my own. Should match that carpet once I finally buck up and buy some lol. Pretty happy with it, single cabs need all the useful storage they can get.

Changed the oil today. After some reading, the closest affordable synthetic alternative to 20w50 VR-1 is Mobil 1 15w50. High ZDDP content (more than 1300ppm Zinc and Phosphorus) and reasonably priced at O’Reillys- 30% discount for 6 quarts or more. Used a K&N Gold filter as well.

Curious why you run such high dollar oil? Not being a dick, genuinely curious cuz I don't remember the details on your motor. I've always run Rotella 15W40 in my small blocks cuz it has all those good vitamins and minerals without the expense of the fancy stuff

Great question, and I don’t take it that way at all. Mostly it’s because it has all the red white and blue colors on it and checkered flags and stuff, the Mobil even says NASCAR on it.

No, it’s because I’m extremely distrustful of the “rebuild “ after driving it. It runs low oil pressure sub 30 in warm weather with 10/40 in it. I didn’t rebuild it, I bought it this way. But I don’t know how much attention to detail it had on the bottom end and suspect more bearing clearance than should be. So, I’m going with thicker/more expensive oil. Not expecting anyone to agree, but it’s what I’m doing.

Ahhh, makes sense. Definitely worth a few extra dollars at each change to not hurt it until you're ready to rebuild/replace

Yeah, that’s the plan- I’d like to keep it going for around five years, until I can get the bodywork done and then the plan after that would be a big block and maybe something like a Gearstar transmission.

Its the price you pay when you have an anti oil administration in the White House.
Hate to tell you this Buddy... but anti or pro, oil prices are going to rise. The Saudi's are in control of the world market regardless of who's in the White House.
