@ChuckN I only noticed it once we got home but it seems to be smoking at idle and during revs/while the revs come back down. I was about to pull the motor anyway because of my massive oil leak so it's not a huge loss. Just hoping it's not actually hurt, I don't want to pull the bottom end apart if I can help it

It wasn't as bad as I feared. I didn't enjoy it but at least the stupid window goes up and down without assistance now. For some reason it never wanted to work when Mrs. Redfish was in the truck. I think her weight was causing the chassis to flex and bend putting the mechanism in a bind. :(

Getting the assembly out and back into that hole in the door is not nearly as bad as I feared. That part was actually easy.

There are several Youtube videos on how to do this. Most of them omit the part where you remove the shroud from the old motor and install it on the new motor. You have to drill the original fasteners. I used rivets to re-attach to the new motor which meant I had to drill/enlarge the holes in the new motor to accomodate.

Take pics of how everything attaches BEFORE you disassemble the motor from the regulator. Do keep in mind that the regulator is in a bind, there is a spring that wants to unwind. You need some method of keeping it from moving before you remove the motor.
Channel locks. I use channel locks to hold the regulator in place while you change out the old to new motors. I also use a marker to outline the old motor/regulator set-up before I separate them.

The second small terminal is for a vehicle with point ignition, not HEI. Usually marked with an "R", you don't need it. Leave it open.
Agreed, but if you have a rubber vacuum line cap or a plastic cap, it wouldn't hurt to put that on the terminal you don't use.

The term "leave it open" refers to an open circuit, or not connected. As you stated a cover won't hurt, but not necessary.

Buddy offered me a flat 62" deflecta-shield. What size is supposed to be on our squares? I doubt I'll use it, but I'm sure I can find it a good home here.
Yep I took a rough measurement because they were tucked away, but it was in that 61-63 inch mark I would be confident saying 62.

when I researched(watched YouTube vids) I saw one person put their regulator In a vice to keep the spring from recoiling in the regulator...then I saw several other videos of the power motor being replaced without bracing the regulator. I did mine without putting it In a vice but I did make sure to slightly over wind the motor gear to the regulator gear as that is what I noticed before taking the old out for the the new.

I adjusted the idle. That sounds pretty simple right? Well...I have read a LOT of stuff on this forum and elsewhere that went into great detail about unplugging things, resetting things, the TBI system is nothing like a carburetor... I was honestly worried about this. I didn't know how many RPM it was actually turning but it idled so slowly that it shook and vibrated (especially with the AC running) and it sounded like crap. I kept listening to the exhaust on other 350s that had similar exhaust systems and they sounded much better than mine.

Pop had given me an old tool a while back but I have not actually used it. I should have used it before I popped out the plug/seal over the idle adjustment screw but I waited until afterwards. I am now idling about 540 to 550 RPM and it is a LOT nicer to drive. Almost entirely eliminated the backfiring between shifts. The sharp, abrupt ON/OFF throttle jerkiness is entirely gone. The idle is smooth, no more shaking and vibrating. And the dual Magnaflows now sound almost exactly like I always wanted them to at idle.

New coolant hose for the 82 and the 84 on ramps to get a new starter. Maybe do it tomorrow as I'm waiting on the engine to cool down. I'm getting thirsty. Lol
