The vortec 4.3/5.0/5.7/7.4 are all picky about caps an rotors. Next time it needs replaced get a set with brass contacts. I've had better luck with those. For some reason that style distributor is bad to collect moisture an the brass doesn't seem to be bothered by it so much.

I agree with this 110%.

My 2002 4.3 had a moisture problem. After swapping caps and rotors several times I found a GM tech bulletin that stated add insulation to the AC hose running across the firewall above the distributor. Also knock the screen vent in the die cast housing out. The distributor was getting so corroded inside I bought a new replacement from GM. To my surprise the housing was plastic. Well no more moisture issues.

My oem was plastic and It's amazing how long they last. I replaced with cheap aluminum body one a while back, I should have just put in a quality rotor then lol

Yep I just removed the factory plastic one from 99 7.4 because the cap ears were cracked an the gear was getting some wear. They will last but the aftermarket aluminum ones are alot better.

I drove it to a small local car show. Had a nice visit with some nice folks.

A couple of cheap POS cars parked next to me:

I met the owner of this little Square Body. And yes, he does know this is NOT a true "Fall Guy" truck. I tried to buy his front bumper...

I went out to the shop at the in-laws last night after dinner where’s she’s been since August and walked around it, admired it lovingly, and longed for the days of better weather when I can bring it back home and drive it. Come on spring!

Working on the 85 with my 11 year old today. brake lights on both sides working funny. Replaced all bulbs. Just needed a scrape on pass side. Driver side needs new plug. I'll pick one up tomorrow, I mended it with a small piece of foil.

Installed new temp gauge and cleaned up wiring under the steering wheel. The temp gauge is the only one that works in the cluster. Lol

Well, many months later I finally have the front end back together. Sanded and painted core support, grille, painted stripe in brightwork, polished brightwork, new emblem, installed nice used fangs, 0000 steel wool on the whole bumper assembly, new Silverstar headlights, LMC headlight harness with relays, new parking lamps and side markers and cleaned all under hood grounds. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the parking lamps. They just don't look period correct when lit. Will have to figure out what LMC sent me..... Edit: Swapped in a before pic.
