Yesterday, got the tach instrument cluster installed for test and greased the front end. First time it’s been off jackstands for months. All good. Temp gauge still doesn’t work, so next thing is to get a new sensor (that fits). Goes “hot” when grounded. Everything else checks out. Man, it looks good and I really like it.

Today my buddy stopped over and we reassembled the interior. The carpet rug from the jungle website on the dash actually blends well. No, it’s not hiding any flaws. Why do you say? How dare you !;)

Next we used the tach to dial in the timing to my liking. Nice and snappy, though I’m going to adjust the accelerator pump arm setting on the Edelbrock to try to get rid of the occasional stumble on a quick “braap “. Overall running VERY good. Since the engine is barely broken in, next is to change the oil again and wait for weather good enough for the first test drive. THE DAY HAS COME. Really, I’m running out of things I want to do, last thing will be to wait for warmer weather to put the side trim on and apply the VGG patina preserver Shine Juice after the Comet wash. Mostly, time to save up for the lowering kit that @bluex took the time to make a sticky post about. No, there’s no tears of happiness here. Not at all.

De-carbonization. Did that this morning before work.

I've got a 305, I'm running a step colder plugs because it reduces pinging, but of course that also promotes carbon buildup. So about every 5K I give her the old de-carb treatment.

What I always use. ACDelco X66A. Directions are warm the engine up, so I did it after I'd driven an hour to work. Idle engine at fast idle and spray contents of can down the throat of the carburetor. Work throttle valve to keep the engine running but don't rev it up.

It seems to me that the amount of smoke emitted out the tail pipe is directly related to how much carbon is in there. If it's not to bad you'll get a moderate amount of smoke, if it's bad you'll fill the sky.

Anyhow once you have emptied the contents of the can down the throat of the carburetor let off the throttle valve, the engine may stall and that's ok if not reach inside and kill the engine. The idea is that manifold, valves and cylinders get to soak in this stuff. Can says leave it sit for 5 - 10 minutes, fire it up and rev it a few times to blow out the gunk. I let it sit for 10 minutes, fire it up and blow out the gunk.

Following that I rev the engine to about 1,200RPM and slowly pour about 12oz of water down the throat of the carburetor. Figure about 5 minutes or more to dribble the water in.

So that's my de-carb method and works super well.

Two of my beauty rings are really rusted. Thinking of touching up the rims without the rings. What y'all think?

Fedex just dropped this off an hour ago. Couldn't find it for about 4 months - then about 3 weeks to finally get it once I found it. Wont need it for awhile but still psyched I got it. They also had the seal in stock. Next weekend is my b-day - debating on wrapping it and acting surprised.

@Doppleganger I have been debating getting this. Mine rattles like crazy and is very annoying. What are your first thoughts about it? Where did you end up getting it from?

Started working on getting the JBL component speakers fitted behind the seat. Gonna have to fill the top of the existing hole and put the tweeter there.

Seems very well made - CR Lawrence I have always heard was the better of the lot. After about 5 vendors telling me this was discontinued and another 3 charging almost double for 'old stock' they still had, I called CR Lawrence directly. They said there had been a lapse in inventory but they had 2 large batches coming in over the next 10-14 days. I asked them if I could buy from them (yes but only in mass quantities) - then where could I get them. They told me to go here: https://www.dkhardware.com/

These guys are also on ebay, for the same base price, but if I added the seal, ebay would not allow combined shipping (they get fees off that too), and for whatever reason, the tax rate was higher (they're infamous for that too). So I went directly to the vendor's site - not only was the shipping cheaper (and combined), but the tax was lower and if you're a new customer, you can sign up for 5% off your initial order. Was about a $45 difference and I didn't support feebay. They ship out of Miami, fwiw.

Here's the window and seal:
