can someone show me what an 85 GMC grill looks like? 85-87+88 k5’s and suburbans are all the same as far as I’ve seen.

Holy crap is rear pinion yoke searching hard. Can anyone narrow down the search and tell me what yoke i could use with 30 splines and 1.19" cup diameter? I tried Spicer like @Vbb199 suggested but **** all i kept seeing was Jeep stuff, hard to navigate

ok, guess I’m confused and didn’t read the post right. Because the black GMC in this picture is what I was thinking they were talking about changing the grill to an 85 grill and I’m like, “it already has the correct grill”. Carry on.

Wasn’t on any of my trucks but did fix a customers tilt column...larger fella with an 88 Blazer...said he used the steering wheel to get into the truck and heard a loud snap, he was still driving it even tho you could change gears by turning the wheel, which he had to hold up while driving, and it would shut off sometimes while turning (ignition actuator rod moving)

had to tear it all the way down to the bearing housing support (where the notoriously loose #8 inverted torx go), he managed to rip that from the plate that those 4 bolts go and snapped one of em off in the backing plate...he also managed to snap the column shift gear detent in half too.

dude got lucky we had the detent, backing plate and housing support laying around, but for what he’s gonna be paying for my time, he coulda (shoulda?) just bought a fancy replacement column

Finished the passenger door, what ever glue they used for the rubber seal around the door is strong. I had to wire wheel it off the blaster wouldn't do it. Started on the drivers side door ran out of steam

IN OTHER NEWS, after i about **** myself with the '80, i moved on to the '88 and i got the passenger side hub assembly put back together, the driver's side yesterday. Got my doors and tailgate back from the blast shop on Monday, he didn't warp them but the part of the door and tailgate was bondo'd pretty hard. A few minor dents here and there but overall solid for being original doors. Hope to sand them down and spray them in epoxy later on. Got the rear bumper brackets ordered and painted up. Previous owner had an aftermarket bumper on that i have since removed and will be getting an original. Problem is he removed all the brackets. I was able to buy the outers but i need the inners, they bolt onto the end of the frame i believe. Anyone know where i can get them? And does anyone know where i can get the 4x4 stickers for the end of my hubs? Thanks

please don’t go back with the auto locking hubs.They are unreliable at best....and the weakest link in that front end.Quick tip,those hubs are prone to unlocking when reversing down a hill.

Got the ring gear on and bearing on pinion gear. Didn't know how far to press it on pinion gear. I measured old one to new and both measured 6.1" so I'm done with it tonight. Lol

please don’t go back with the auto locking hubs.They are unreliable at best....and the weakest link in that front end.Quick tip,those hubs are prone to unlocking when reversing down a hill.

They are also prone to not locking when you are stuck in the snow or wet grass, lol.

Well with the auto hubs, that's not an option. But, with manual hubs, I'd lock those suckers in for the winter and they would stay locked until late spring. I'd only unlock them if we were going on a trip out of town on the interstate.

Auto hubs get a bad wrap. But in my experience they are reliable as long as they are regularly (I try for monthly) put in 4wd for a bit to keep the hubs lubed.

not taken, have been considering the manual Warns; until i drive the thing and get a feel for everything, i'll figure out what's best for the old girl
