Got the old headliner out. Not sure what I’m gonna do but the old headliner backing is basically cardboard and 28 year old cardboard doesn’t age well. Gonna have to find a nice replacement.

I know that no one makes an aftermarket one. Your only choice maybe to find one in a junkyard or wreck. One of the guy's you tagged may know something different (i hope).

EDIT: I wonder if you could modify a suburban headliner?? :shrug:

Have you thought about perforated floor mats? They have drainage underneath, interlock, are tough as a tire but you can still cut them to fit. Home stores and restaurant supply stores usually have an assortment.

That's funny. My dad had one of those in his Dodge for years.
It was under a cap, though.
I used to get tired of pulling it out every time I hauled something.

My worry with that would be stuff hanging in the holes. Like tabs that are welded on parts you're dragging in and out and muffler hangers etc. Then there's the loose nuts and bolts that will get down in there and never come out or the dirt that will collect in the holes. I think it will solve one problem and create a whole host of others.
Exactly what it does. It's a huge pain in the ass. I bitched every time.
And those mats are heavy, too.

@Big Chip @bucket @89Suburban @dvdswan any ideas?

Is yours delaminated in areas or is it just brittle and breaking?

breaking/tearing in a few spots. It's literally about 5 or 6 layers of cardboard glued together and it's torn/broke in a few spots

Just finished installing a 87 Blazer fuel tank . Because I flipped the axle C'ed the frame and narrowed the rear it I had to move it as far back as possible to clear the diff . I used a 87 tank so I can install fuel injection at a later date , also made my own stainless steel straps . Had to turn the stock sending unit 90 deg. so the float would clear the injection tub , also used the 5/16" return and the 1/4" vent fittings to make a temporary vent for the filler . I relocated the filler cap to the back side of the right wheel tub . Don
