replaced washer fluid jug early may. Now the replacement is leaking (Dorman). I swear i'm gonna get a damn tide or milk jug and stick that **** in there. Better yet, rig something up to hook up to the jug the washer fluid comes in. Damn already.....my repaired '86 jug lasted longer than this crap.

[edit] hmm....convert a charcoal canister to a washer fluid reservoir....maybe. At least it will appear original lol.

Every Dorman part I've ever bought has failed. Won't touch them anymore.

Trying to finish my brakes so I can put my wheels/tires back on and get the drive train set in the frame. Have bought 5 'kits' for the drums, parking brake, etc. and there was 6 pieces still not included in any of them. Tried cleaning the originals up but they were pretty bad, so I stripped then replated them. They call this a 'nickle passivate' that is 6x more corrosion resistant than regular zinc.

Wont really see any of it but gotta look good to be good. I tossed in the 2 pcs from my transfer case too. These look better in person than in the pics.

If Fedex doesn't lose my new rear cables, I should have everything back together this weekend. :hat:

They told me it involves an acid bath that 'sterilizes' the metal to be free from any oxides or residues, plus it etches it for a deeper adhesion of the nickle plating. IIRC I think he also said it is a stronger current as well. Thats all I know of it. But it works amazing and is very cheap considering.

That mild acid etch is called passivation which removes surface iron. It's common in a lot of metal surface treatments.

I thought you may have been doing the plating in your kitchen or something. If you're sending it out maybe you could tell us where. Being on an island I'm always looking for corrosion resistant coatings.

Well, got the water pump off tonight. All went smoothly till I got to the ps pump. Idk how they got it on with that belt on it. It was adjusted as low as it goes because it hits the water pump. So I had to cut the belt off. When I did, I hit the radiator and poked a small hole in it. ****!

But, I got it off

I used my craftsman wratchet wrenches and they worked great for the job. I really like them.

I'll get The leak fixed once it's back together at the shop.

Its a local place that is exclusively Chrysler. A good friend is good friends with the 3rd generation owner. I got invited to a euchre tournament he was having several years ago. He made the best whiskey sours that I got totally shtfaced on.....which affected my playing (calling suits on a 9 or 10).....and I just kicked ass. LMAO Anyways, it was a great introduction and he agreed to do my side stuff.

They have told me more than once that I am 1 of 2 not named Chrysler or Jeep that they do stuff for. They also remind me every visit that I am not to advertise it. He said the exclusive agreement with Chrysler was just that - they and they alone. I guess Chrysler tried to buy this place out but the owner refused saying they would just move it / combine it elsewhere and the place would disappear. Or worse yet, bring in their own people to manage it.

If someone is doing a resto, I'd help them out - take it down, etc. The key is how you prep it.

Well, I'm not going to infringe on your private deal. I'm sure I can find another avenue if it comes down to it. At least you've given me a new idea.

There is a painter close by that does $100k restos, primarily old Mopars. He painted a car for me and saw the motor that I replated all the brackets on. This is before the new booster, lower cover and new dampener bolt, but gives an idea what it looked like :

I re popped all my own labels and emblems too. This guy was obsessed with it - wanted to know where I got it done. I wouldn't tell him but offered to take anything he'd want done with my stuff. I think it pissed him off because he'd never respond to any requests to paint anything else.

Sooooo....in the event you'd want something plated, just say. :hat:

(but again.....the key is in the prep)

That is sweet.

I've got a glass beader. Is that good prep?

If the occasion comes up I'll let you know. Thanks.
