I had a full day! I'd like to start by saying how grateful i am of my dad, not only is he practically the most skilled mechanic i know, but he has patience! After dragging my butt around, i finally pulled the 80 in for new power steering pump seals, and man it was something. There were plenty of cuss words and hollering, had to pull the shroud and the fan to easily get to ps pulley (with a tool he let me borrow) fished it all off, replaced the seals, put it ALL back together and i'm tightening my belts. Belts have been squeaking, happy to finally tighten them. But things aren't looking right. Ended up i put one of the ps bracket bolts in a hole, IN WHICH THERE WASN'T A BOLT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Why have the hole there? So since it was there, it wasn't holding the pump to the bracket and there was a ton of play. I finally figured that one out after going down to my brothers 454 and comparing. I felt like quite the dunce. Was able to find a spare bolt in the famous bolt can and trimmed it down, and got it in WITH the pulley on. Beats pulling EVERYTHING back off again. My oil pressure light has also been coming on after about 5 minutes of driving, and my oil sender has been soaked in ps fluid and looks pretty crumby. My dad had one laying around on a 305 and we'll see how it works down the road. So now the ps isn't leaking, my belts are nice and tight, my oil pressure might be good and i finally took a closer look at my A/C (i currently have a thread open about this)
My brother had converted is A/C on his 454 from R12 to R134 and was able to charge it and get it to work. I figured i had to convert mine too and charge it, as my A/C compressor clutch spins sometimes when my heater is on, telling me that freon is low MEANING IT DOES WORK (previous owner said they never had it working) My dad saves the day yet again and says "hey this has already been converted you dummy" So after a few good laughs and a ton of shame, he pulled out some cans to charge it up and now i have running AC! The compressor was working exactly how it should and everything seemed happy. I was pretty dumbfounded by the end of the day knowing the old girl isn't leaking power steering and has working AC. It does need a good wash and detailing though now, as i have my first car show of the year on the 5th of June. It'll be quite the hike to get there but with how she's running now, there isn't a worry to be had
sorry no pictures, i was in the zone and filthy
and STILL waiting on the rear end yoke for my Jimmy in order to bring it to my dad's shop for wiring overhaul
