I went out to my K5 and started it up - the first time in about 6 weeks, engaged the WARN hubs because it's snowing again. I ran it around the block in 2WD and on the straightaways, I slipped it into 4WD-H to exercise it all.
After running for over an hour, I checked fluids (all 10-4) and the air pressure in all 5 tires (spare too) and drove over to the gas station and filled it up to the gas cap to get as much into it as I could.
► One never knows when a couple more ounces of gasoline will pay off for the extra two minutes of winch time - does one?
I've got heavy duty tire chains for all 4 wheels and another set of quick-cables for the times when it's icy .... and not snowy.
Then I hooked the winch up to a dead tree, spooled the cable out to the last layer by freewheeling and backing up 115 feet and locked the parking brake. Then I slipped the T-case into neutral and cranked the cable back in while persuading it to go level with my front bumper ... while the rear wheels just dragged across the field; that makes it tight.
► OK - I have to explain that my front bumper is really a 4x4 that the winch cable holds crosswise over the fairlead and I use it as a stepladder to get up to the underhood and scrape the ice off the windshield---- and ultimately a 5 foot long 4x4 plank to guide the cable back into the winch ... etc.
► There really is the OE bumper in front, but my winch underhangs the bullbar as it rides in the front 2" receiver.
The 4x4 is missing from this pix - but you get the idea ....

So-
o-ooo - now I'm all set for the snow storm that hasn't happened so far this year. I love snow - at least 4 feet deep makes me happy!
Global warming sux! I miss the snow.
This winter has been a bust - for a while I thought I'd have to mow my lawn last month!
All that - and before lunch too.
PS --- I'm sorry and I promise to get new pixs of the K5 soon...... really!
