I trust them as much as I would any auto mechanic. Auto mechanics are just car salesmen with dirtier hands.
It's guys like you that piss off the good mechanics!! NOT all of us are crooked, just cause YOU got screwed a time or two doesn't give you the right to bad mouth all. Maybe you should do some checking on who is doing the work on your rigs before you start classifying all of us. I say this with all DUE respect!!!

BBC needs that hose from water pump to intake!:party52:
You must be registered for see images attach

Thank you sir, never knew that.[/QUOTE]
It is a bypass hose, needed to maintain a water circulation through the block, so it warms the block evenly while the t'stat is closed.
Another misconception with thermostats, is when people remove them to overcome heating issues. They are also there to provide a static head pressure on the pump or in other words a pressure differential, to force the water throughout the entire block and not take the least path of resistance. For what it's worth, just my 2 cents.

Think I figured out my gas gauge problem. Ground wire to the sending unit was unplugged or so loose I knocked it off at some point. Going to have to drop the tank and solder it on. Of course it's 1/2 full of gas now so, that'll make it easy...

In the interim, just fit another ground wire though the 'outer edge" of the tank joining flange, to the chassis.

And unless you suspect problems removing the bed bolts, I’d consider removing the bed vs dropping the tank.
You don’t need to drop the tank to put the ground back on.
And maybe someone smarter then me can explain how you’d ever get the fuel lines and clamps back on the sender with no access to the top of the tank. Idk if I could.

A good idea but the truck is just sitting for right now. Not licensed or inspected yet. I make sure to start it up every few days though. Got an appointment with the DMV next month and I gotta get tires (got the money set aside just gotta decide which ones to go with), then it'll be on the road.

I'll drop the tank my next day off, assuming its not snowing like crazy. Might be able to just take the front mount off the frame and let it hang, while I get it soldered on there.

Oh that's real simple have skinny arms and hands and then just scrape about 1/2 your skin off while you tighten the clamps down with your head and upper torso contorted around the filler hose wile the tank hangs from the front mount. It was not easy... and I still gotta do it again for the passenger side.

No need to be offended. The world needs lawyers, car salesmen, bankers, hedge fund managers, and auto mechanics. Even though the "good mechanics" (like yourself, obviously) are about as rare as Italian WWII victories I'm sure they're out there - just few and far between where I happen to live.

Spoken like someone who doesn't get their hands dirty! There are crooked mechanics, heck, there's crooks in all industries, but I wish you success in your truck repair. I comment as a technician with over 35 years experience and know that about 2/3 of guys in the industry can't properly diagnose much less fix a car! Good luck

I was a golf course superintendent for 14 years so I literally "got my hands dirty" for a living at a clip of between 50 - 60 hours a week. It was just red Georgia clay and not grease.

There is one guy here locally with a good rep. He's going to do some work on my engine for me.

When I did both of my tanks, I just cut the lines when I was dropping it and then ran new hose that was much longer and looped over the top of the tank when installed. I removed, cleaned, and replaced all the hoses in about 2 hours. The bed bolts were rusted on so bad that I would have had to cut or drill them, it was MUCH faster to just drop the tanks and will be even easier in the future since the hoses are now long enough to drop the tank all the way down to reach on top of it.

I was going to say that a statement like that could piss off some folks, but...

...but Perry already let you in on it.

Whether it's needed or not, it will offend people.

There's actually a whole bunch of honest mechanics. Part of the problem is actually the customer. Just because they don't understand what is actually going on, they assume that the mechanics are trying to screw them. And then some mechanics are very honest, but just aren't the smartest.

Oh and about the car salesmen. There's honest car salesmen too, lol.

That may be true, but there aren't any around here where I live.

I bought this Blazer a little over a month ago knowing it needed some work and that a lot of said work couldn't be done myself due to the fact I lack the tools and garage space. I was OK with this and I knew I would have to take it in for service. The tire and alignment place doing the front end and suspension work is basically a cartel. They pretty much have the market cornered here and own most of the tire and alignment shops in a 3 county area. When they got my ride up on the lift, the big bossman mechanic comes and gets me out of the waiting room and asks me to come back to the shop with him. Then, before we get back to my car, he asks me, "So, how much do you like this thing?" I replied that "I like it enough to have it fixed" then asked him why he was asking. He replies that these repairs were "gonna be kinda expensive", and that if I "wanted to get rid of it" that he would "do me a favor and take it off my hands for me". I just shot him a disgusted look at as I stared at the tattoos on his knuckles that read "LTFC" on one hand and "ESUK" on the other (that spells LETS F*** when you interlock your fingers) and dryly replied, "It's not for sale. Just do the work." So, instead of just explaining what needed to be done he tried the old "I'll shoot this guy a super high estimate and try to buy this car I want out from under him instead" routine. His estimate somehow "magically" decreased by about 40% from what he had originally told me when I finally spoke to the shop manager about how much it was gonna cost later on. He purposely inflated his estimate to try and get his greasy hands on my car.

Then today, I decided to call the guy who is supposed to be the "best, most honest mechanic around" and ask him about doing some work on the motor for me. Keep in mind I have never met this man and have had zero dealings with him so he doesn't know me from Adam's house cat. He's got this "honest guy" rep around town and a friend of mine referred him to me singing his praises about how great he was so I decided to call him. He asked me what kind of car it was and I told him it was a 1985 Blazer. He replied that he "only works on the new cars" and that my car was "too old for him to work on". This was a bald-faced lie right from the get-go, as I drive past his shop 2 or 3 times a week and see plenty of cars older than mine getting worked on. He repairs 60's and 70's Volkswagen beetles all the time, too. The car my friend has had work done on is a 1986 Mustang SVO so he's basically full of **** and lying to me over the phone right from the start. But, it's his business, and he has the right to turn down whatever work he feels like. I was fine with that but I could have done without the obvious lying. But then, before I hang up the phone, he tells me he "knows just the place" I should take my car to and proceeds to refer me to this notorious local junkyard that I wouldn't even take my 1970's Snapper lawn mower to get fixed. Ever seen the movie 'Christine'? It's a place like "Darnell's Garage" from that film. It's owned by a cigar-chomping mean old man who would just assume kill you as look at you and has a pack of ferocious dogs roaming the property. I had actually already been down there about two weeks ago looking for a bumper, and out of nowhere this guy starts talking about "how easy it is to hide a dead body in a junkyard", even going into great detail about stacking cars on top of the body and adding a little bit of sulfur with the quicklime to "confuse the hell out of those cadaver dogs they got".

So, while I'm sure there are hard-working, honest, NORMAL human beings who actually do work as auto mechanics, I'll reiterate once again that I don't know any personally and that there aren't any around here that I'm aware of.

I think honesty is hard to find anywhere anymore, in any trade. I'm not saying they're not out there but it's getting rarer and rarer to find them. As more and more snowflakes come into the work force it's going to get worse and worse.
