Jeezus man, that’s some nasty looking coolant.... you might just have a big air bubble in there that’s keeping it from circulating. Does your thermostat have the little wobble bleeder thing on it?

My temp sensor is in the head and not the intake. I see your point.

I'd say "Engineers that have no practical experience are the real problem."

They get lots of technical experience in school and internships. Very little practical experience though. I can't tell you how many great ideas for senior design projects I saw end up completely FUBAR because design decisions were made that were technically feasible, but almost impossible to implement in real life.

Yeah, but it's not doing you any good at those temps. It might as well be a solid at that temp. Even air cooled engine that are originally spec'd for that weight oil call for a lighter grade in sub-zero temps. You're going to blow that engine up(if you don't kill your starter or battery first) trying to run it at those temps with that heavy of an oil.

Somehow it actually survived that brutal coldstart. My 1000 CCA deep cycle marine battery probably helped a lot, but I think that since the clearances are so large, it was able get going without breaking the oil pump.

Poor starter!! Dang that new thing don't want to start!! Never been around that cold of temps so no idea!
old engines and lots of miles will do that in the cold. I had an old toyota years ago that was fuel injected but had low compression and ran 20w50 and it would start like that in anything below freezing basically. The first winter I had the 'burb though when the engine was still in really good shape, it would start up just as nice whether it was -20 or 50 degrees, would only turn a little slower off the battery

There's no pegboard anywhere in that garage. A real workspace has to have some pegboard.

blah.....that's room for cabinets to hold other stuff. Get some tool carts and "Anal'ize" them :)

Today, I added a dollop of brake fluid to the clutch reservoir, a quart of 10w-30 to the crankcase and installed a new steering stabilizer. Last week it was fixing the ****** clutch safety switch.

Upcoming will be new urethane bushings for the sway bar. Then begins the replacement of the power steering pump and hoses, new fan belts. Got a box from LMC a week ago with all the stuff for both the front window channels and the new arm rests. After that it will be time to attack the various rust areas and new rattlecan paint job.

Went out to the truck today to check my tires as the rears have been losing air at times. Good thing I did as the left rear was sitting on the ground. Got the mechanics truck and aired it back up to 18.5 lbs.
1 1/2 hrs later almost time to go home so gonna pull mine out of the shed and put the company truck in. Low again at 7 lbs. Pulled up to the shop for more air. Put in 22 lbs for the 4 mile ride home. Backed in the garage and jacked her up. Down to 12.5 now. Pulled the tire off to soap it down. Figured something went into the tube. Nothing in the tire and no punctures.
A few spots along the outside bead was bubbling, along with some of the rim screws. Threw it back on the studs and lowered her to the ground and bubbles increased when the tire sat in a certain position. Tightened up 4 loose screws, which pulled the bead in more and the bubbles stopped no matter how the tire was sitting. Threw more air in to 22 lbs to help show any leaks better and went in for 2 hours.
Checked again and read 19.2. Feeble me wasn’t thinking the first time to check the inside screws. 3 more screws were bubbling. Tighten down, no bubbles. Pressured back to 22lbs.
Tire back on. Set back on ground. Went in for 2 hours.
Recheck pressure. 22 lbs. will let sit thru tomorrow as we will be in OKC. Hopefully all will be well and will drop down to normal 18.5 lbs.
Getting bad about overlooking things.

The pan from home depot works great!

Ran it for 20 minutes plus cap on. The top hose never pressured up hard. Ran it with fan till it hit 200.

It doesn't seem to be circulating like it should to me. It just slowly pushes it out. My other square you could see it circulating with the cap off. Other vehicles too.

I'll drain it and refill and run again tomorrow till it runs clean. Then refill with green coolant and water.
How is the thermostat, l can usually see mine flowing water once the stat opens.?

The boy has done quite a bit to the truck.
- New battery cables
- Fresh gear reduction starter
- New wiper delay switch
- New ignition switch
- New headlight switch
- Alternator upgrade to CS130 from a 1991 Cadillac Eldorado

I just ordered this new panel.
This old truck has some janky ass switches and stuff in it.
So we are fixing that and making things better.

Finished flushing the coolant system. I went and bought a 160* and 180* thermostat and a couple gaskets. Wasn't sure if mine was working or not. Tested the 160 one and it works. My coolant neck has an o-ring on it so don't need the gaskets.

I ran it with out the stat to get maximum flow. It's kinda blurry but. It not flowing real fast. Kinda like a waterfall. Wonder if I should get a higher volume water pump?

Did this twice not letting it get hot because i already ran it under pressure yesterday for 20 minutes. This was the rinse cycle.

This time I pulled the top hose at radiator and the bottom. Rinsed radiator till clear. Then put water in the top hose and let it run clear out the bottom hose. Seemed faster than keep filling and draining or the hose in the radiator cap and over flowing.
