I use to get annoyed with the “parts people” behind the counter. Most only know what the computer tells them. But anymore I like to have fun with them. If I’m get something engine related, of could the 1st thing asked is make and model. When engine asked the engine size, I say 383. That throws them off. Even last Tuesday getting a new battery, with the old one sitting on the counter, the young lady asked what’s it going in. Saying it goes under the bed of a ‘75 C10 didn’t help her any. The manager was grinning the whole time knowing all she had to do was just get the same battery that was in front of her.
This was at Auto Zone. 3 guys have the knowledge and skills to find or get what’s needed. O’Reillys has 4. I like spreading my business between the two.
I generally try to go to Oriellys. They’re the best of the bunch for sure. I’ll mess with the younger guys sometimes, but when I’m pressed for time, I’m less willing to play lol

This is for you smart guys out there, you too Rusty. Hahahah

While I was at it, I started looking over the rest of the motor for leaks and found these puddles in the intake. Oil must be coming up through these two intake bolts.

Maybe an illusion, but is there a hairline crack at the bottom hole?

We lost our shop too. But not before I had mine rebuilt.

If the cover gasket isn’t sealing, a little Permatex thread sealer will fix it.

That was Autozone. They’re the scum, lowest of the low parts store anyway. It wouldn’t do any good. Only reason I even tried is because the others are much further out of the way.

If you haven't already, it's time to meet the manager and set him straight. If not, make a phone call higher up....managers are replaceable if the customer is treated like ****.

Thanks, I’ll double check the hole. It was late when I got it off.
Thread sealer it is. I’m tired of this thing marking it territory.

If I remember right, all the holes going into the heads are open, except the front and rear corners, which are blind holes. No sealer on those, just oil, as it will create a hydraulic lock between the bottom of the bolt and the bottom of the closed hole and then you won't get a correct torque reading.

Took my truck to my brother’s spring shop and started tearing off everything loose or leaking.
*Shook down the front end and found left upper ball joint and lower a-arm shaft bushings needs replaced.
*Left front upper shock stud loose (the rattle I’ve come to hate)
*Rear diff cover (leaking)
*Steering gear leaking
*Valve covers leaking
*Radiator leaking

The road trips have given me something to do this winter.
Well ****

I just remind myself that they're working at a job that holds very little opportunity for improvement, while doing so for minimum wage.
If I'm looking for parts I usually get on their website to look up part number and price before going.

So it is a crack? Couldn't tell for sure since I couldn't zoom in enough. Seems like that's the one that likes to give from the frame flexing.

Only store I have in town is NAPA, ok, not great. It's part of a chain of owned stores here in western Idaho. Autozone and Oreillys, both in Ontario Oregon are decent, if you get the right people. I do most of my business with the Autozone store. They will deliver maybe twice daily if I need it. It's not far, 20 miles, but I appreciate it, and the prices are usually better than NAPA, even considering my commercial accounts.

Yeah, it was one of the loose ones. It’s the bolt with a spacer, is that original?
Anyway, I welded up the crack and ordered the frame reinforcement kit. In the meantime, I will be keeping myself busy replacing the radiator. The radiator shop said he could fix the seam but the core was rotten. Plugged in a couple of places and two repair work numbers were found. He was not sure how long before I’d be doing this all over again. Found a new brass replacement in DeMoines. Should be here tomorrow.

What's the name of the radiator shop? I'd like to get mine rehabbed too.

Nah. I’ve only gone full Karen a couple times over the years. Parts store counter jockeys aren’t worth that
