I sourced a second hood for my square. My original hood has been repainted now 3 times and the shop is having a difficult time with adhesion in the passenger side seam that uns the length of the hood. Usually two weeks after the full cure, a small 1" long by 1/4" bubble forms in the same place as well as some sort of "fisheye" close to the same area. The paint shop has offered that since I brought in another hood, to fill, block sand, paint, cut and polish it for free.

oh well...looks like I will have some wall art for my garage.

wow....this is normally a busy one.....no replies since June?

Anyway, looked at my tail pan assembly as it's rusted out and needs replacing. LMC wants $150 for the whole assembly! Anyone used steel "U" channel for this part? From what I see it's bolted at the ends so it shouldn't be a PITA to remove/install with the bed off. Correct me if I'm wrong. I did notice a tac weld on each side so it might not be as easy.

I have heard of people using flat stock steel to cover/replace that section once it has been cut out.

That's what I'd do cut a piece of 20 gauge and weld it in. If the bed is off even easier. You could probably have it cut and bent to your dimensions and make it even easier.

I've been working on my truck since June lol. New inner and outer rockers, kick panel, floor pan, heater core and controls, vent cover, and seat. Oh, and donuts lol.

I don't see any reason not to build a patch for that section.

I'd build a patch panel from the same gauge. Tie it in as cleanly as possible too.

I've got the LS on a test stand here in the house. Hooked up the air compressor tank filled with oil to prime it. Worked out great. Of course I got in a rush.....needless to say there's a big spot on the floor that's cleaner then the rest. I forgot to install the oil filter and plug the oil pressure sensor....:) At first I thought crap don't let her come down here now please.....then I thought if she does she can KMA.....it's my basement lol.

I picked up some more paint to try out. Wedding is in two weeks, it's slowing my progress significantly lol.

As Sean says, aka Farmtruck, Marriage is like playing poker. It starts out as 2 hearts and a Diamond, and ends up with 2 clubs and a spade. :laughing1:

1982 1 ton flatbed dually with 1991 Chevy TBI 350+700R4 swap. Got it back together for the second time.

Second time? Yup. Sometime after I got it running the first time, some a-hole* dropped a small hex nut down the intake and poured a bunch of iron shavings into the crankcase.

Distorted #8 piston enough to make it really hard to crank and also made a heck of a racket. Good thing it was idling and parked instead of running down the highway!

Fortunately it didn't break the head or cylinder wall. Left a few impressions of the nut in the top of the piston, ending up with it mashed flat sideways and partially embedded in the piston.

So this time around I decided to give it an upgrade from the mild dish original pistons to flat tops.

Got it running yesterday, real nice. Just have to finish adjustment on the shift linkage, finish fixing up the wiring for the bed lights, fix up and reinstall the two toolboxes under the front of the bed, finish repairs to the side rails and figure out how to mount the strap ratchets without interfering with the toolbox doors opening.

*I have a pretty good idea who did it. Fortunately, last I heard he was in jail in Oklahoma or Kansas after he stole a car out here to go back there. Hopefully he's still in gaol.
