Interesting. I've never seen any wheels turn green on them though. Ford definitely likes to change things though, just for the sake of changing things.

Those goofy 7-lug wheels actually stuck around for a while. They were an option on the '04+ F150s as part of a heavy duty package. Did you ever notice that the base model '99-'04 Super Duties had hubcaps with 7 "lugs"? They were used on 8-lug Econolines too for a number of years. Iirc, the hubcaps were first used on those non-SD '97+ F250s, hence the 7 lugs on the hubcaps.

Yup that’s when I knew Ford definitively lost their collective marbles.
I had couple of them as work trucks and it was nice to have a heavier rear suspension but was still a F150 by another name.
Not to mention, a bad decision for 2nd 3rd owners buying a newer vehicle with totally obsolete components already.

Not to mention, a bad decision for 2nd 3rd owners buying a newer vehicle with totally obsolete components already.

I had a coworker that had one at one point, a 98 or 99 IIRC. He had aftermarket wheels on it! I asked him "where in the hell did you find wheels for that dumb thing??" He said American Racing made that bullet hole style wheel for those trucks for a very short time, he bought a set and they told him that was the last one before they were to be discontinued

Mounted new sway bar brackets, and got the sway bar mounted. Cleanded up bumper brackets and mounting bolts. Mounted the front bumper. Finished the rear brake line. Just little odds, and ends.

I wish it was nice enough to sand and paint here in Washington…
Oh well… just means I have more time to make plans to spend more money in the spring when I pull the whole thing down to the frame!

It's always been my understanding that the exhaust must exit after the passenger compartment and that's it. I remember in '96 when the new '97 F150 came out, they had an exhaust that exited before the rear tire. Iirc, that was changed in '98. Maybe due to a law change?

I once knew a guy that had working brake lights and turn signals, but not tail lights. So he taped flashlights to his quarter panels and painted the lenses red. He got pulled over and the cop told him "I understand that it technically works, but you just can't drive around like that" lol.

Past the passenger compartment and outside the body line, it wasn't allowed to exit under the vehicle IIRR, the guy that owned the repair facility wanted it in the factory position. The truck was never going to pass emissions anyways, this was '87-88 era. Nobody knew how to tune any of that stuff and all factory emissions were required. It was a really cool truck, he just brought it to the wrong state and the wrong unfriendly station.

I do too. Something I did that makes it more tolerable was to get an electric orbital sander with velcro backed discs, then connected a vacuum cleaner to the discharge of it. It's awkward at first but I am not breathing the dust and tracking it all through my house and cars. It's also kinder on the electric bill compared to my air compressor.

Sanded on the fenders, rocker panels, and tailgate; might be warm enough to primer next two days. I also drilled the new hole for the old school emblem. I despise sanding too; these old trucks have a lot of surface area.

It's funny, just two days ago I was at a local salvage yard getting a Chevy wheel. While I was waiting in the customer area, I was looking at the stuff they had on display. They actually had an aftermarket wheel/tire combo sitting there for sale, for the goofy 7-lug trucks. They looked to be not very old as well. I was very surprised.

So I figured it out today and got her fired up! First time she has ran in probably ten years. I’m happy as can be. The ignition has something loose inside the column. I hit the steering column a couple times and the starter started clicking again. I checked with a tester at the battery terminal and had power and checked at the terminal from ignition and that had power. So I started checking grounds. Couldn’t find one the the engine. Really all I could find besides headlights and hood was the battery to the frame. So I added a ground to the engine and she fired right up. Took a couple sprays of starter fluid but she started idling fine. Still has some old gas in it. Fairly certain the tanks are about empty so I might throw in a can of Seafoam and new gas and see where she goes from there. Took the shell off too. Hated it. Wish I could add a video, is that possible? I’m brand new to this forum.

That’s got to be just about the best feeling! Knowing you you made that thing run again!
The only way I know how to get a video on here is uploading it on YouTube and putting the link on you post. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
