I like your orange belts. 40 years ago my neighbor's dad had an orange Square. Pretty sure it was factory paint, but I don't remember the interior color. Just curious, did GM do a factory interior with orange belts?

Bought this truck from my neighbors and that was the one thing they changed after owning it for 20 years. They didn’t swap the lap belts so I just removed those since I will never use them, they were the same “oyster/mystic” color. I like the orange too, it’s fun but I don’t think they offered it as an option. I would have to look at more brochures and do googling. They are GM belts though, not sure where they bought them.

Orange was an available interior color in the late 70's (including 1980 too I believe). Iirc, it was available only on K5's and regular cab pickups.

It's extremely uncommon. It's probably been 10-15 years since I have seen a factory orange interior in person.

Put the new starter on the 84 today and it doesn't mesh with the flywheel and just spins. So I'm gonna have str rebuild the old one. I'm tired of fcking with these stupid starters that don't fit right. Just my luck too!!

I guess I'm in late on this and may not know whats going on... but why not just get the correct starter? If you have a staggered patern starter now and it misses the flex plate, just get a straight pattern starter that matches the smaller flex plate that someone put in.

Today I finally tackled the rounded nut on the left kingpin cap. I replaced it with a grade 8 bolt, added 2 washers to the spring and got that side back together.

I also replaced the header gaskets. The old ones actually aren't very old, but they blew out right after installing them because they were the wrong size.

^Those copper gaskets are from Summit and I DO NOT recommend them. Besides the ports being larger than they were supposed to be, the gaskets don't compress very well. You really have to crank the bolts down tighter than what should be necessary to make them seal. Even at that, #4 has a big leak still so I'll pull that one back out for inspection.

The last header gaskets I got from Summit were aluminum and sealed perfectly.

4 corners welded, filled and semi protected. I been pushing a bit on the pedal to get this far so I can work on some other neglected vehicles. I’m gonna take a break till it cools off a little bit. I very much dislike the filling and sanding process especially since I am working outside.

All the parts houses give me the staggered pattern one. Believe me I told them I wish I could get one that looks exactly like the one I pulled off. So I'm just going to have the rebuild it and I know it'll fit.

Get one for an '84 Caprice or Camaro with the 305. It'll be the right one. They used the smaller flex plate.

Edit:
If looking up for Camaro, look up the automatic. The 5 speed version fits and works, but has a smaller nose cone that requires shorter bolts.

Replaced one of two flowmasters. The baffle chambers fell apart inside and was banging around.$229inc tax installed.Back when the same place installed whole dual system it cost $275 complete. Sounded like somebody beating on a metal trash can driving down the road.

I appreciate this but, it needs a new solenoid because it works fine after you give it a whack. I'd rather just have rebuild the one I pulled because I know it fits. It's been 3 now and I'm done. Lol
