Water Pump Install - '89 TBI 350

Using two nuts, you can thread them on the stud, and tighten them against each other, making a temporary "bolt head" to remove each one and transfer to the new one.

A thin skin of RTV sealant applied to the pump faces.

Stick the gaskets on in the proper positions...

...and another thin coat of RTV on the block side of the gaskets.

Cleaned off the monting bolts with the dremel brush...

Insert the bolts into the water pump and gaskets to hold the gaskets in place and a tiny dab of RTV on the threads of all bolts.

Install pump, being carefull not to dislocate the gaskets. tighten in a criss cross pattern a few times applying more torque each time. There is no torque spec for these bolts that I could find in my manual.

Loop a section of the serpentine belt onto the crank pulley.

Install water pump pulley and clutch fan and 4 nuts, tighten as much as you can hand tight while wiggling fan to get it seated fully on the pump shaft/flange.

Install and route rest of serpentine belt as directed by the label on the fan housing or radiator support.

You can then use a wrench to tighten the nuts on the fan clutch fully.

Install the upper fan shroud.

Install upper raditaor hose onto thermostat housing.

Then install other end onto radiator.

I usually save an old used radiator hose to use for rubbing points to protect new hoses. I usually hold them on with a zip-tie but I forgot them so I had to settle for electrical tape.
