that may be true, I guess when I Think of it, would power have to stay applied all the time to keep it "up" if so, i could see it being how I said it. but if not then idk. lol.
Yep. As long as ignition is applied it is holding it up. Thats also how the idle solenoid on my 1980 quadrajet is. The signal that engages the AC compressor also engages the solenoid to raise the idle RPM while the compressor is active.

Cool, hopefully a varajet uses the same solenoids as a qjet/2jet/dualjet but i have a feeling it probably doesnt

Wow I didn't expect the responses I got on here but this is what I found in my searching for the Idle stop solenoid for the Varajet. The closest one I found that matches the pic that @justhorns posted was a Borg Warner ECS48 idle solenoid and GM 17057277. There is also a AC Delco part number 8137238 that is similar but the wire connector pops off the side like the first two listing in @AuroraGirl post #18. Also I noticed that Part store suggest Standard Motors Idle Stop Solenoid ES9 as a possible replacement which is similar to the 214-2138 that is in @AuroraGirl post #18 and the one that @Bextreme04 said is for the quadrajet. With the Standard Motors ES9 at least that one is still manufacturer. So which still leave me in a dilemma still. This wouldn't be a problem if the original carb was left on the truck but they took the original Varajet off the truck, did a DIY propane conversion on it 40+ years ago, put a monojet with 2 difference adoptor plates on the 2 barrel intake manifold that lifted the monojet carb up like 2 and half inches, now that I'm converting it back to run on gas the monojet wasn't getting full throttle because it's sitting to high up.

@Vbb199 Yeah that is actually helpful to me, because it actually verifies the picture that @justhorns posted on post #3. Its pin points the exact one that I need for my 79. From what I get is 79 is the first year that the Varajet was add to the i6, previous years had the Monojet.

I willl take all the pictures from any angle you need... i doubt i'l ever use the carb itself. The motor will definitely be repurposed in my 55' but that carb was difficult for me to tinker with lol . A classic holley holley or something would better, so im not gonna cry if i take pieces off of it.

Ah yes, as someone who dabbles more in newer fuel injection

Intake air temps matter... alot


These lazy old 6 and 8 cylinders got way more nut than some classy new fuel injected motor does.


Those things can be misfiring on 2 cylinders, 160° intake temps, 230° block temp, watered down gasoline, and still live


Give a new motor anything less than perfect standards and they fall apart.

its why im glad my ford (go forder) has the last year of the i6. Its fuel injection m, has the best flow they ever cmae witrh, still wants to kill me with how relible it is, and makes my cry a lot., Yeah its never run close to stoic AFR and it probably wont tiill I do a lot of exhaust fixing but its mine <3

Too bad your manifold won't bolt on a Holly 350, be perfect for that motor, and motor would be WAY more responsive. Did that to an ol' 235, made a good difference.
