Its a breather/vent tube to your gas tank. Seen trucks with and without it hooked up.

The vapor canister in the pic is for fuel vapor from your tank. If you rant to get rid of it, stick an axle breather cap on end of that hose, then ditch the canister.

Why ditch the canister? Do you know what it does? Is it ugly? or just in your way?

The only emissions junk on these trucks that need to be tossed are the EGR and A.I.R injection systems

The black canister actually stores fuel vapor from the fuel tanks and feeds it to the carbs fuel bowl when the engine is running. It actually improves MPGs. And at the same time serves as a fuel tank pressure vent.

Do you have tubes going into your exhaust manifolds? Or an extra accessory on the belts that you cant figure out what its for? If not then you don't have AIR. If you did it would be as simple as disengaging it from the belt system as it draws power from the engine in order to spin it. It pumps air into the exhaust to promote continued combustion of exhaust gases while exiting the exhaust system and helps the catalytic converters to work better.

The EGR is on the passenger side of the intake manifold. It is the "Exhaust Gas Recirculation" valve. It recirculates exhaust gas into the intake manifold to be re-burned in the combustion chamber. It just basically gums everything up. Including the combustion it self.

In no way does a vapor canister improve gas mileage on a carbureted vehicle. It is strictly to prevent fuel vapor from escaping into the atmosphere. A vehicle that measures air volume (MAF) can have a negative effect if EVAP is leaking into the system unmetered.

EGR lowers NOx by introducing exhaust gases. The uncombustible exhaust gas replaces combustible oxygen which in turn lowers emissions.

AIR pump introduces fresh air into the exhaust system to help burn the remaining amount of unburned fuel while it goes down the exhaust pipe. It also helps the catalytic converter do it's job.

with all that said... you don't need any of that sh!t in my opinion.
