Upper Front Shock Mounts

Can anyone explain why at least on my truck why they designed the shocks so it can slide back and forth on the sleeve for?

Is this so that when the truck flexes the shock can move so it doesn't bind? But then why isn't the rear the same way?

This seems like a silly idea.

It shouldn't. Something is wrong there.

Well I put new shocks on the truck and it looks exactly like it did with the old shocks. The only difference is that I can take the top of the shock and slide it on the sleeve.

Can someone provide me a picture of what their upper shock mount looks like please.

Here is a pic of mine. Now I have a double mount setup. The inner shock is tight between the frame and the original mount. I don't know if you can zoom in close enough to see it though.

Hrm. The only reason the old one didn't slide was because of the bushing was stuck to the shock.

This is dis-concerning and uncool. I need a single shock setup so I can see if the shock is tight to the frame or tight to the bracket bolt side.

I know my shocks were mounted solid against the shock bracket and the sleeve was against the frame. That being said, mine weren't factory so, maybe the last guy did it right hopefully

That's on my suburban I can check my 79 to see how its set up also.

My 79 is the same, shock against the shock bracket, but instead of a sleeve it has a spacer.

So cleaning up my shop I found this odd looking black spacer. I then realized it looks like it is for the upper mount.

Went out to the truck and sure enough it fit. So pro comp actually ships a shock spacer to take up the extra space for our trucks. the box was partially open when I got it so it must have fallen out.

So similar situation and getting ready to install. Upper mounts were bent in to accept cheaper shocks (guessing). Not knowing any better, I hacked off the "excess" on the new shock sleeves. Should I mount them if they'll fit (coil overs) or should I get replacement sleeves for the top of the shocks? Single not dual. 86 k10.

5 minutes after hacking them off last year, I searched and found there's a gap between the top and the frame. Have felt like a DA since.
