Cracked frame/shock mounts help

Yes, I was thinking about grinding out the cracks and welding back over them. I also saw this alternate mounting brace kit on ORD's website. I may give it a try also. https://www.offroaddesign.com/rear-...87-91-k5-blazer-jimmy-k10-and-k20-pickup.html
I have this kit on my C20. Works good.
Where the cracks on the frame are, drill 1/8" holes at each end on the crack (stops the crack spreading further) then weld up the crack grind it back, paint, and use the offroad design kit. This is good for the rear end.
The cracks are caused by the torquing of the shock mount stud because its only supported at one end. This kit stops the torquing as the stud is now supported at both ends.

I ordered the kit last night. I'm still planning on drilling and grinding out the cracks. Thinking I might do some reinforcing/plating (as was mentioned earlier by another member) too. Not sure on the best option for plating the outside of the frame rail, as the plate would cover up the hole that the top of the shock bolts thru?

Thanks for the pic. That's a sweet setup. I agree the ORD bracket can do nothing but help this issue. I also ordered the steering box support bracket and weld on plate repair kit. I figured it would make sense to do it now once the frame is stripped. I'm slowing stripping the frame now and going to get ready to paint. Just trying to see what all is needed to be addressed before blasting/paint. What lift setup are you running? My plans are to eventually go with the ORD 6" spring lift or shackle flip kit.

Excellent thread-info. My frame is ok, but I ordered the reinforcement kit from ORD in a preventative mode. Would you use a larger piece of steel (like a glorified fender washer) on the backside to reinforce/support the shock mounting hole?

I did this when I made mounting brackets for the rear sway bar too.
I’d do nothing at all in your case. It’s not like these are weak unless the truck is beat on pretty good. Which I suspect won’t be the life your truck leads.

Mines just the ORD economy 4” lift, BDS springs I believe.
