I purchased a 1976 SWB Chevrolet K10. I have since found that it is a combination of several vehicles. The VIN on the cab door sill is clearly from 1976 pick up. The identification number on the passenger side front cylinder head defies identification as the listied numbers end prior to the number. The code on the back of the driver side block ,while not on any published list, was noted by a member of this forum to be from a 1978 to 1985 factory installed crate engine. I spent yesterday afternoon searching the driver side frame member looking for a number or ID stamped under the cab to no avail. HOWEVER, having once read on a Corvette site that the each side of a SB was stamped during casting with the original displacement no one in this forum has been able to validate that factoid. But I do have a “379” stamped on each side of my block which would equate to a 6.2 L. Unfortunately there were no 6.2 L gasoline engines until the Vortech era. The major problem exists that a number of accessory items on the engine change between 1976 and 1977. As I go about working on this truck I need to be able to define my replacement parts by year.
