Tried I did, researching newer trucks. That's just frustrating. I don't want whistles, bells, heated seats, Power windows, computerized everything! Prices and potential mileage of "newer" trucks drew me back to my older 76 Chevy 1/2 ton. The previous owner(s) painted over the red. Looks like it was spray-can painted, flat black. It fits the farm truck look - except the body is completely straight. Only one dent in the tailgate.
In a few weeks, I'm headed out, pulling a 20' travel trailer. Got an opportunity, 400 miles from here. The engine & transmission sound & work great (some leakage.) I'll keep an eye on levels.
The last gas fill up, the mileage was Over 15 miles per gallon. [Did I have a tail wind? ] Pulling 3,500 lbs will drop the mpg but it's far cheaper than the new trucks. These "simple" older model trucks are a hoot to drive and to see the looks people give or the comments they say - add good to the ride.
Anyone else using their old classic beyond the show n shine events... ??
