Probably a stupid question but I admit that its been a loong time since I had a V8 worth messing with.
Have a 'new' motor - a 97 5.7L to replace the original 85 5.7. All the peripherals (starter, accessories, etc) are also 97. Edelbrock FI. I'm staying with the TH400 for now. Low miles and works great but will still probably have it gone through while everything is out and apart.
How do you figure the correct torque converter for this....and is the flywheel the same from the 85 to the 97? Guy who built the motor (old school guy - has built 100s) told me to get a 2400-2800. Said thats a tad higher than stock. I dont doubt him but would like to know: why? Also - brands, etc.
TIA
