Th400 bracket ???

I recently started hearing a rattle under my truck. So i got under there and found this "bracket" the end with 3 holes was between the transmission and bushing. The other end was hitting the driver side frame.
There where no bolts holding it in place i yanked it out by hand. There are no holes that lined up with the frame... i should of got a picture of it in place sorry... anyway pulled it out went for a drive no rattle no issue.. can anyone tell me what this is? or does? Oh truck is my 79 c10 2wd with a th400. Thanks for the info

What bushing are you referring to? It kind of looks like an exhaust pipe hanger but the 3 rivets holding the rubber on have broke off.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. And who ever did the custom exhaust didnt reuse it. As for the bushing.im talking about the one that sits on the transmission crossmember separting the trans from the crossmember.

As long as everything is well supported I wouldn't worry too much, maybe try looking through some old manuals for that year and see if you can find it, this site has a great collection of them

Found it! It was an exhaust bracket. Once someone put in the aftermarket exhaust they didn't reuse it.

OK, yeah I figured that's what it looked like. Most of us refer to what you called the bushing as the transmission mount. It's all good, mystery solved !!! Thanks for the update and conclusion.

Two things. One, don't throw it out. Somebody here, particularly somebody from CA who needs to keep their emissions intact might need it. Two, if it suddenly started hitting the frame when it didnt before, that would suggest the transmission mount is sagging. You might want to take a closer look at it.

Although not much, could its absence change the u-joint angle, being that it was attached to the top of the tranny mount?
Would/should a 'spacer/plate' be appropriate to install?

I was thinking the same thing but no vibrations so im not going to. Even at 70mph wich i do 8 minutes of to and from work!!
